Enabling R1S Gen2 Third Row AC On/Off Memory

Does anyone with an R1S have an issue like me where the third row AC setting gets lost each time the vehicle starts? My kiddos in the back are not getting any ventilation each time they get in, despite me turning it on each and every time. So I have to jump through all the menus each car ride. Not a big deal but a bit annoying. I've also noticed that the memory for the ventilated seats for the front row doesn't remember anymore either, I think my R1T did.

I think I also found a bug in the UI: decreasing the third row AC force from high to medium (4 to 2 dots) it causes the AC system to shut off--fans still work but no cold air blows, so I have to go back into the AC control and re-enable cold air. This happened 3 times during our drive today.

It does not remember the 3rd row. Tried it too many times without luck. I'm sure it can be update thru software

Same. Limited memory for second and third rows it seems.

Rivian in a way seems to have lots of “memory” issues that could be solved with software updates. No cruise control resume feature, HVAC, suspension and regen settings not tied to specific users…

This would be great if they can update this. Drive settings also has a memory failure--I have to adjust the regen mode to lowest each time as it defaults to medium (standard). My old R1T remembered my regen setting just fine so I know they can do it...

I am pretty sure that you can thank the EPA for that one.

I believe that according to current EPA regulations, the efficiency test must be run using the worst combination of settings that can be set as the default. So if Rivian permitted you to configure low regen as default then they would have to use that setting for the EPA efficiency test and they wouldn't be able to advertise the vehicle as having as much range.

Because of this I do not think there is any chance that Rivian will "fix" this via a software update as it would invalidate their EPA rating.

Fair point, I believe it has to default to the drive mode it was EPA tested at, though not necessarily the most efficient depending on manufacturers’ choices as you allude to. Auto-start/stop features on ICE engines are a similar issue.

Mine will stay in high regen between drives. But I could not preference normal regen and have my spouse select high regen per profile which I find silly. Rivian could still allow that sort of individualization.

Keeping on topic, how does the 2nd row HVAC know to stay on or off unlike the 3rd row? Mine seems haphazard at best. We have a child in a car seat and a dog back there sometimes. And sometimes the settings stay and other times not. Is there a sensor or other system? Does sync on or off change things for the second row? I keep the rear screen locked as a 7 month old and a mutt seem incompetent at best at operating it.

My Model Y would remember the 2nd row AC option, I believe it would turn the 2nd row AC on if the sensors told the computer that there were occupants in it. I don't see why Rivian can't do the same thing, it's quite simple.
