I could see it being somewhat useful if you are going on a hike for a few days and the car will be outside. It could potentially counteract vampire drain and maybe add a few miles of range.
Another use could be to use it while camping maybe... if you are using the EV battery to power the inverter for a refrigerator or a stove. It could maybe counter some of the power loss from that.
I wish solar was cheaper and better. It's a neat idea.

Cool idea but mostly a gimmick.

Rough break even point:

1200W of solar will produce ~800W max in peak sun.

0.8kWh per hour of use. Assuming $0.20/kWh ~$0.16/hour of full sun

3000/0.16 = 18750 hours of full sun needed to break even

Honestly my guess is the panels break down and are ineffective before you recoup your cost.
Yea. It take more than 5 yrs to pay for itself assuming you used it every available hour with sun, even assuming you could get 12 hr per day of sun
