Hi friend,
Due to recent instability in international trade, the shipment of our Rivian sunshades has unfortunately been delayed. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. To avoid further delay for you, we have processed a full refund, and the amount will be returned to your original payment method shortly.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Hi EVBase rep!
I will look for the credit but remain baffled by your approach to communicating the issues and hold ups. To start, when I look at your website there are verified reviews of the sunshade timestamped after the date I placed my order. How are you able to deliver these shade to other folks? and in case this is due to trade dynamics, why didn't you share the extra charge details? as the upcharge can be a manageable adjustment for some customers, have a nice day.

EVBase can speak for themselves but there are some logical reasons you may want to consider before berating a vendor and site sponsor:
- Products may have been shipped weeks or months before the reviews got posted - so some of those folks may be writing reviews on products they received in January or February, pre-tariff. I typically wait a month or two after receiving a product to see how it works and holds up before writing or recording a product review. First impressions are helpful, but are not complete product reviews.
- If you've been following the news out of Washington, tariff policy has been erratic at best. Tariff coverage and rates have been changing daily, sometimes multiple times per day, with differing treatment for items falling under the prior de minimis exception. Some vendors played ahead and put excess inventory in the US before tariffs started taking hold to buy some time to figure out what the rates would be, what goods they would apply to, and how best to handle the resulting price increases while they lobbied for exceptions (Apple). Others weren't able to produce and move enough goods in time. In the latter case, where you'll see this appear is directly from the shippers who move the goods from the port towards your location since they need to remove the goods from the 'in transit' warehouses and that act typically triggers the tariff - whatever is in effect at the time of beginning the shipping process in the US.

BTW, everyone is up in arms in Land Rover and other forums about parts shipping fees, brokerage fees, etc. which are all tariffs since they have not been priced in at the point of sale for most companies as of yet - mostly due to the uncertain nature of timing, coverage and rate - so vendors have left it to the shippers in the near term. The only play here was to buy what you wanted/needed pre-tariff or wait a bit until the waters settle out.

It's frustrating for everyone, buyers and sellers, but this is our new normal.

In general I agree with your post. I will note when there is poor communication or lacking communication that’s when I say it’s fair to express your experience and your feelings on the matter.

Having said that after I made the comment in this post about tariff invoice, evbase finally responded. But only after I made a public post. I’m guessing that had I said nothing I’d be left holding the bag for a UPS fee that should have been covered by them. I will note the item was ordered and delivered before the tariffs were announced and implemented. People and vendors should be held accountable, would you agree?

Public forums are all about sharing experiences and information. I've been known to post both positive and critical reviews of products and vendors all over the Internet to provide information to others considering similar purchases. I appreciate your sharing your experience.

Hi carsly,

To begin, my intention here is not—and has not been—to criticize or humiliate the vendor. If my previous note was perceived in that manner, my apologize, as such a tone is counterproductive. Indeed, there are complexities involved in determining final costs for customers due to tariffs, especially given the unprecedented dynamics currently affecting product cost but why hold back?

However, I noticed the reviews and then your earlier message indicating your evbase order delivered within 7-10 days, which would had placed it well after my order and that felt promising.

If my order experienced delays and now they canceled it, due to tariff-related issues, proactive communication via email or a notice on their website about delays would have been appreciated. Even a simple acknowledgment indicating uncertainty about final shipment fees and a message for a follow up once the product reached your U.S. warehouse would have been acceptable. Under such circumstances, I likely would have agreed to pay the additional taxes or fees.

Additionally, given the discussions occurring on Rivian forums—akin to other public forums—it appears that similar concerns would be common place by many customers regarding non-U.S.-made accessories.

Bottom line, the vendor has received my order and had my payment, and I have patiently initiated all communication to gain clarity on next steps and expectations. Even if they doubled the price or given me the option to wait till fees are final would had been reasonable. Ultimately, it is up to the vendor to proactively engage with customers and collaboratively address these challenges.

Thank you,

ps. they indicated cancelling my order which I am patiently waiting to see the direct cancellation email from them.
