So you placed your order already and OTHER dealers are contacting you? I thought it was through your chosen dealer?

@SeaGeo's dealer didn't get any wave 1 allocations, so now I'm debating whether it's worth the $5k to get wave 1 through my place. I can easily flip if I don't like when I get my Rivian in April/May (but really June, right?).

Also I haven't gotten any emails or calls from my dealership, which is actually one reason I've stuck them, lol.
I picked a bad chosen dealer initially, and then I tried to switch it today when I put in my order. Somehow in their system they must have both been alerted.

5 minutes after my order went through I get a call and text saying - "I have one in stock call me!" and of course it's the dealer with 1 gas F-150 on his lot. Ford sends him an alert that I'm a customer who wants an F-150. Their whole dealer system integration with the national website is a mess.

It just floors me how clueless the dealers are. If I contacted customers and was that out of touch about our services and what they want, I’d be out of work shortly.

I thought the whole dealer markups were over with Fords pricing system? Can they still char above MSRP?

Dealers can absolutely markup. If you're interested to see how much check out the F150 Lightning forums or the sub reddit. The lowest I saw were $5-10k before the ordering went live, I'm not sure how bad its gotten. It's just another hoop for people to jump through to find a dealer that says they won't mark up. Nothing is guaranteed until you actually take delivery.

I know all the chatter on it, but based on the language in my wave 1 invitation, I get the impression Ford nixed the dealer markup. At the end of the process, I get a printout with my price that I should take to the dealer, that they should directly convert to an order. We'll see what happens.

I got one today also. Really did‘t expect to be in the first wave. So torn on what to do. The lightning looks great and from a company that’s made trucks forever, and has a local service network. On the other hand, definitely more of a cool factor with Rivian.

Tough decision. Might order and decide when it comes in.
Does the website tells you if dealer deposit refundable?

It says that it varies by dealer and check with your dealer. The deposit is $500. I'm not too concerned because I'm sure they can easily sell if I change my mind, so they should refund the deposit.

I'm not confident enough in my Oct-Dec 22 delivery date from Rivian, so went with the lightning for now. I'll then decide when Rivian contacts me if I want to sell the lightning unless that gets delayed.

Hopefully it works out for you. I just don't see how Ford can "make" a dealer do something. They can get tricky with allocations or something else on the back end but they can't really tell a dealer to charge a customer a certain price. That's the crux of the dealer model. The Bronco and Maverick had/have pretty much the same issues.

What "print out", and why are you going to the dealer? I did all mine online.

Read your dealer sales agreement closely. They may try to prevent you from reselling within a year.

Hopefully they don't try to sneak that in there. In any case, if I sell at cost, I don't think they can withhold since there is no value taken away from them.

Guess I'm showing my age by saying "print out"

I was hoping to sign a purchase agreement with the dealer to make sure I had something from them confirming the final price. After talking to them this morning, they say I'm all set, and said the price will be what's on my online order, unless Ford changes it on them.

Kudos to your dealer if this ends up being true and there's no markup. Make sure to shout them out, more dealers need to be encouraged to do the same.

Ford just sent me a survey based on my experience. I know it's almost pointless responding, but I let them know how awful the experience was as soon as a dealer was involved. I am sure all the Southern California dealers are adding substantial markups to the Lightning orders.

Another reason why we need Rivian to succeed. I'd rather Rivian raise their prices to meet the market demand up front than order a vehicle from a dealership who is adding extra charges and mark ups on top of the quoted price.

Yea I highly doubt you'll be getting these at MSRP. Wait for them to slap with you with "Market adjustment"

Mine has explicitly said they're holding MSRP for all factory orders. If it makes it to the lot unclaimed (ie, if a reservation is cancelled) then they'll sale it with a markup. Which makes sense to me personally.
