Send it back. Not even a question in my mind that this is acceptable. These are only the misalignment, and poor quality control issues you can see. Imagine the potential number hidden from view.

Rivian needs to know that this is simply unacceptable. They are passing off obvious defects and hoping we overlook them. It’s not enough to simply fix the cosmetic issues after the fact.

These are symptoms of deeper issues.

It's odd that the SC delivered it in that condition. When I had my delivery appointment scheduled, they delayed it a day because there was a small dent in the hood. Now whether they found it while doing the PDI or someone accidentally hit it, it was good that they got it fixed before delivery.

My panel gaps aren't great, neither are the ones on my Tesla, I don't really care too much. It doesn't affect the drivability in the slightest, and I can't count the number of panel gaps I've seen on other manufacturers.

I also have a steering wheel shake above 75, I'm betting it's a wheel balance issue, gonna get them balanced and rotated next week, hopefully that fixes the issue.

Tesla has all the same issues at delivery, I know from experience.
Does that make it ok that they're delivering vehicles with these issues? No.
But would I go through the hassle of returning it and waiting again, no? They don't affect how it drives and can (I think anyway) be fixed with service visits.

Up to the OP though. Some people care more about these issue than I do. I'd say Rivian should know about these issues, but they likely do, as does Tesla, who consistently sells millions of vehicles in spite of them, hooray capitalism.

I'd be most concerned with the the wheel shake and the panel alignment. this one needs to be taken back or at least fixed. These are not live with it issues.

R1S Vin Decoder, The only difference is the 3rd Row Seats have a 3 point restraint sysyem. I would not be worried about that at all. Unless there is something else you may have read. If so please share with the group. Now for all that other stuff, those pictures make it look like a used car to include the micro scratches on the roof of the SUV. My last four of the VIN is in the Mid 8K range but have not seen it in person yet. This forum makes me nervous.

That has quite a bit of issues. I’d also return it and ask to be put back high in the queue. Maybe they can give you access to the R1S Shop.

I had a dent on the tailgate trim and they replaced the whole tailgate! I got it back much better aligned than when I took delivery. They were also able to fix my hood alignment well. But this all took a month to do at the SC and body shop.
It's good to hear that they did actually replace the tailgate for you, but it taking a month would have made me crazy!

Sorry to hear about your issues! I would follow other posters and recommend returning it. This probably was rejected previously. The pictures you sent over do look pretty rough.

Interesting feedback on the Meridian sound system, though.

Did you touch the EQ at all? Coming from a 2022 refreshed Model S that had the new Tesla 960W sound system, I found it to be pretty comparable (both systems were excellent) when adjusted.
I did end up spending time in the vehicle today and played around with the sound equalizer. Definitely made a significant improvement in the sound quality. I'd say it's on par with the Meridian I had in the Jaguar IPace.

As far as I read, the changes were the 3-point belt and a design change on the floor of the driver's side. Certainly not something that is overly concerning for me at this point and I've gotten my wife more comfortable with it as well.

Right now the panel issues are the most glaring and I'll be talking to my guide on Monday as I'm not inclined to send it to the SC to be "fixed" given they had so many months to fix these issues from the build date.

I swear that the SC didn't really do anything with the car as they seemed pretty slammed. They are obviously trying to deliver as many vehicles as possible. My 2016 Tesla had a bunch of issues but the Tesla SC held the car back for a week to fix some paint issues before delivery which I appreciated. The remaining problems (leaks, some panel gaps) were fixed within a few days so I was pretty happy.

It just irritates me that they try to push these vehicles onto customers. When I got the VIN, I knew something was wrong which is why I asked my Guide about it, but clearly my Guide wasn't educated by this forum and gave a wrong answer!

Usually cosmetic issues aren't something I get too worked up over, but these are pretty bad and not a fix in a few days so come Monday I'll see what my Guide has to say.

Good call. That build quality is dreadful. How was that allowed past QC (if they have one)

That is the key question. The factory is not running near full speed so there is more time (not less) for QC checks. Not only to give a better image to their customers but to relieve the pressure on the SCs who have to fix these issues in a large number of cases.

The SCs are going to be busy from mid summer retrofitting the new PTC. So having less avoidable issues, like, these will help them.

With the service centers so busy and overbooked you’d think factory QC would improve to alleviate the after sales impact.

Good luck, I wonder where it has been and why it is 8 months late.

I had the trim piece popped out on delivery of my R1T, they fixed it with a mobile service appointment when they got one in stock. Took about 2-3 weeks.

Rivian had plans to build both 2-row and 3-row R1Ss when that VIN decoder was provided to NHTSA. The seventh digit would be "A" on 2-row models. The seventh digit should be "B" on all 3-row models.
