I have a similar issue on my driver side crossbar trim, except it is only like that on the rear portion. I pushed down on it and it doesn't seem like anything latches it down, maybe it is just adhesive.

It never would have crossed my mind that the difference in safety rating between 22 and 23 would be part of any decision making process when purchasing the vehicle. In fact, we did pre-order it without even knowing the safety rating. The rating difference is marginal. In only one area was an improvement made from acceptable to good.

I'd happily trade a newer R1S (once I get it) just to have those 12v outlets and sound system. Everything else is easily fixable by the service center.

If you work though these issues with the service center and keep the vehicle, it will still be a safe vehicle for your family.
Hear hear.

Very marginal safety difference, it's still a tank with high marks either way. Do you buy a new vehicle every time a safer one comes out?

I'm no audiophile, but the Meridian is the best I've ever heard. Not sure what y'all complain about. Go aftermarket if you really need to tweak those tweakers.

An excellent point and one that I will point out to my wife who is the one more bothered by it than I am. For me, the alignment issues were a bigger deal but not a show stopper.
A little context regarding this (we're in a similar issue, but grabbed a '22 off the shop by accident):
1. look at the photo comparing the crash result. Most people seem to pick out the '23 result as the one with the lower rating. Obviously IIHS disagrees, but the point is the difference seems to be very small.
2. As others noted, the '22 R1S is still safer compared to basically every other vehicle on the road except the '23 R1S.

Being a 1/23 build, it is NOT the vehicle that earned the top safety rating. Rivian made modifications that cannot be retro-fit in order to improve the safety rating for builds after 1/23. While I normally wouldn't care, the fact that I took delivery in 5/23 of a vehicle that is knowingly worse in an accident is something my wife is nervous about.
what modifications where made?

R1S LE RB/BM/22 Brights delivered May 23
The Rivian is still safer than almost all cars on the road despite not having some of the latest and greatest.

That said, those trim and panel issues are really bad and not acceptable. I might not have driven it off the lot in that condition. I'm not sure why the service center allowed this through pre delivery inspection.
And I unfortunately didn't have the time to properly check things out before leaving. It is very unfortunate that they continue to let defects like this through. But hopefully they can be fixed.

I had to get Rivian buy back my first R1T for many issues alike yours, plus a few more.

Push hard for a buyback and get a new one. May take a few weeks to get the ball rolling, but take all the information you’ve prepared for the forum and send to your guide.

Remain polite and courteous, but firm on your requirements for replacement.

Definitely this is more physchological than anything else. Whether the 22 or the 23, the R1S is till a really safe vehicle. I keep trying to tell my wife this.... hoping she will come around!

The biggest factor in having this conversation with them is the fact that they told me it was a different build date and the guide assured me they would take it back. Still a pain to go through the hassle, but at these prices (even pre-increase) they shouldn't be delivering vehicles like this.

I pretty much dismiss all the complaints on these forums as whining but in this case it seems to me that there were some definite misses by Rivian and especially the SC that allowed your R1S to be delivered. They need to be reponsive to your situation not only for you but to find out what is going on at that SC.
Our SC in Chicago has done right by me and is doing an excellent job- that said they are swamped with deliveries and are beyond capacity constraints. Perhaps it is a similar situation at your SC.
Either way I hope they take care of you with a buyback and replacement or a full fix, you deserve to be thrilled with the car not disappointed

That has quite a bit of issues. I’d also return it and ask to be put back high in the queue. Maybe they can give you access to the R1S Shop.

I had a dent on the tailgate trim and they replaced the whole tailgate! I got it back much better aligned than when I took delivery. They were also able to fix my hood alignment well. But this all took a month to do at the SC and body shop.

Sorry to hear about your issues! I would follow other posters and recommend returning it. This probably was rejected previously. The pictures you sent over do look pretty rough.

Interesting feedback on the Meridian sound system, though.

Did you touch the EQ at all? Coming from a 2022 refreshed Model S that had the new Tesla 960W sound system, I found it to be pretty comparable (both systems were excellent) when adjusted.

I would not be a happy camper either.

Do the buyback or exchange it for another one. The truck was sitting around for a reason.

I would have never accepted a vehicle with such bad finish. I hope you turn it back.

Agree, however as Rivian presses to roll vehicles out without a superior QA process (looks at Ford with their vehicle inspection tunnel covered in high-res cameras), it's bound to happen. I think it'll be another year or two before we start to see near perfect assembly rolling out.

Anywho, push for the buyback while you still have the opportunity.

Definitely not everything is noticeable right away. Plus new things come up over time. I’ve had my truck since December and it’s back in the shop for a 5th time because panels are literally falling off. I have a loaner truck and just discovered a loose roof panel where the anchor points are I thought was normal is apparently not normal!
