I have a similar issue on my driver side crossbar trim, except it is only like that on the rear portion. I pushed down on it and it doesn't seem like anything latches it down, maybe it is just adhesive.

Hear hear.It never would have crossed my mind that the difference in safety rating between 22 and 23 would be part of any decision making process when purchasing the vehicle. In fact, we did pre-order it without even knowing the safety rating. The rating difference is marginal. In only one area was an improvement made from acceptable to good.
I'd happily trade a newer R1S (once I get it) just to have those 12v outlets and sound system. Everything else is easily fixable by the service center.
If you work though these issues with the service center and keep the vehicle, it will still be a safe vehicle for your family.
A little context regarding this (we're in a similar issue, but grabbed a '22 off the shop by accident):An excellent point and one that I will point out to my wife who is the one more bothered by it than I am. For me, the alignment issues were a bigger deal but not a show stopper.
what modifications where made?Being a 1/23 build, it is NOT the vehicle that earned the top safety rating. Rivian made modifications that cannot be retro-fit in order to improve the safety rating for builds after 1/23. While I normally wouldn't care, the fact that I took delivery in 5/23 of a vehicle that is knowingly worse in an accident is something my wife is nervous about.
And I unfortunately didn't have the time to properly check things out before leaving. It is very unfortunate that they continue to let defects like this through. But hopefully they can be fixed. The Rivian is still safer than almost all cars on the road despite not having some of the latest and greatest.
That said, those trim and panel issues are really bad and not acceptable. I might not have driven it off the lot in that condition. I'm not sure why the service center allowed this through pre delivery inspection.
Definitely this is more physchological than anything else. Whether the 22 or the 23, the R1S is till a really safe vehicle. I keep trying to tell my wife this.... hoping she will come around!A little context regarding this (we're in a similar issue, but grabbed a '22 off the shop by accident):
1. look at the photo comparing the crash result. Most people seem to pick out the '23 result as the one with the lower rating. Obviously IIHS disagrees, but the point is the difference seems to be very small.
2. As others noted, the '22 R1S is still safer compared to basically every other vehicle on the road except the '23 R1S.
The biggest factor in having this conversation with them is the fact that they told me it was a different build date and the guide assured me they would take it back. Still a pain to go through the hassle, but at these prices (even pre-increase) they shouldn't be delivering vehicles like this.I had to get Rivian buy back my first R1T for many issues alike yours, plus a few more.
Push hard for a buyback and get a new one. May take a few weeks to get the ball rolling, but take all the information you’ve prepared for the forum and send to your guide.
Remain polite and courteous, but firm on your requirements for replacement.
I pretty much dismiss all the complaints on these forums as whining but in this case it seems to me that there were some definite misses by Rivian and especially the SC that allowed your R1S to be delivered. They need to be reponsive to your situation not only for you but to find out what is going on at that SC.The biggest factor in having this conversation with them is the fact that they told me it was a different build date and the guide assured me they would take it back. Agree, however as Rivian presses to roll vehicles out without a superior QA process (looks at Ford with their vehicle inspection tunnel covered in high-res cameras), it's bound to happen. I think it'll be another year or two before we start to see near perfect assembly rolling out.The biggest factor in having this conversation with them is the fact that they told me it was a different build date and the guide assured me they would take it back. Definitely not everything is noticeable right away. Plus new things come up over time. I’ve had my truck since December and it’s back in the shop for a 5th time because panels are literally falling off. I have a loaner truck and just discovered a loose roof panel where the anchor points are I thought was normal is apparently not normal! And I unfortunately didn't have the time to properly check things out before leaving.
