I am betting that Tesla will make the CT the value leader, and underprice everyone. With its spartan interior, lack of paint and lack of complexity, it is possible.

Still gonna keep the R1T, but that's my guess.
I would bet against that. CT is more likely only going to come in a premium configuration, and not the cheaper ones.

Also received the configure email today. I did a test drive a few months back, helped me realize how much I really enjoy the R1T interior (lines, minimalism, material) and the truck in general compared to the Lighting (so many buttons!). The Lighting is an awesome vehicle and the more EVs on the road the better imo, but the price now really makes it a lot less appealing, at least to me. Everyone that was/is able to get a Rivian pre March pricing has got a steal of a deal.

I decided I want the instrument panel to go into a racy looking mode too, included for the $5k. I would love the speed in center in this mode, battery cooling system temps, and torque at each wheel.

And then the door lighting all goes red, too.

And lock/unlock chirp sound like Tron Lightcycles...

I put down my preorder deposit during the Lightning launch event. I wanted a $40,000 Pro.

I haven't been able to order a Pro at any point, and the Pro now starts at $60,000. I would have accepted an XLT Extended Range, but by the time I could place an order (November 2022,) it was over $80k, therefore ineligible for the tax credit. (And the XLT sold out within a day of my order window opening.)

Meanwhile, my $78k (as configured) Rivian delivered last August.

My original plan had been to take possession of both, then decide if the Rivian was worth the extra money over the Ford.

Now, to get an "equivalent towing performance" Lightning would cost nearly $10,000 *MORE* than my Rivian cost me. For a cloth interior and no self driving. I'd have to step up to the Lariat at $92k as I'd actually want it configured. Now we're at nearly $20,000 more (counting tax credit that I got for the Rivian but can't get on the Lightning now.)
There are still 2022 extended range Lariat models available at the $80k point if you really wanted it. I sold my Pro and picked a Lariat up on the lot that way, it ended up being the same price as my price protected R1T. There’s so many available I’m not sure why so many people are waiting to order.

But first, the Pro ownership experience is very different from the Lariat experience. The truck is quieter, more nimble, more comfortable. The tech in the Lariat can be be frustrating, none of that in the Pro.

If you’re looking to tow, it’s a much better experience with the Ford overall.
- Efficiency is about the same. (R1T far better w/o a trailer)
- Hookup is much easier in the Ford due to camera placements, hitch accessibility
- Bluecruise is nice to have with the trailer vs Driver+ being unavailable.
- Aftermarket support (snap on tow mirrors, retrofitting extendable tow mirrors, etc)

But without one..the efficiency in the R1T is undeniable. On conserve I can go 330 actual miles vs 240 in the Ford. It’s a huge difference.

Rated..yes, actual don’t come close based on my driving. The same goes for the R1T which only gets about 260-270 actual miles in all purpose for me.

Pro lifetime avg ~2.2mi/kWh (6k miles)
Lariat Lifetime avg ~2.0mi/kWh (4k miles)
R1T lifetime avg ~2.14mi/kWh (8k miles)

The actual range difference between the SR Pro and the ER Lariat turned out to only be about 45 miles.

The conserve button though gets me up to 2.5-2.8mi/kWh easily. I’ve gone 320 actual miles from a full charge before I had to stop before and even had multiple stretches where I saw:

Wasn’t all downhill or trying to get it either. But I’ve seen that a number of times on conserve when I road trip (70-85mph)

Damn, I was getting 3mi/kWh yesterday without being in conserve. My experience with the Rivian has been getting an easy 300 miles per charge in sport. I'm fairly pleased overall with the range I'm getting. Then again I'm on the 21's and am one of the few who kept the aero covers on so IDK how much that helps. The other wheels look a little nicer but the 21's never really bothered me and the range seems really nice.

260, & 270 post-update, is the rated range on the 20" AT in all purpose mode, correct?

Without a 2nd thought, I wouldn’t hesitate to travel with the R1T. My numbers are mostly on the 22” wheels in cold climate. I owned the R1T late last year so I expect that to climb when I get warmer as well.

Ford is letting me order an XLT this time. Extended battery with 312A standard paint prices at $83,400. I'm tempted to order it with the standard battery and just make the truck dedicated to my larger "farm" property.

ETA: standard battery with 311A and lower propower (2.4 kWh versus 9.6) prices at under 68k.
