Anyone notice when the heat is on and home and in park the fan makes a loud vibrating humming noise in the front end?
took it in for this reason and they said it normal and its prepping for departure. its so bad I feel it in the steering wheel.
I went to service my tesla Y for the exactly the same issue and they told me it is not the fan but the HVAC compressor as someone else already said. My Gen2 Rivian is doing the same and it looks like it is the expected behavior. It's annoying but I learned to tolerate it.

This vibration and noise occurs in our 2026 R1S Dual Max Performance too. Here is a video of it. The noise shows up as a vibration in the steering wheel too. Along with several other noise and slipping steering wheel issues, I have added it as an issue to my Rivian Service Center ticket. Had the appointment for three months and taking it in tomorrow. We took delivery of our R1S on Sept 30, 2025. We will see what they say.

Hey, I have the same build but 2025 w 22” bright wheels. And the same matching sound too! Upon delivery I insisted to the delivery specialist that something was definitely wrong as my model x plaid id just traded in would NEVER issue such a sound so surely a brand new rivian wouldn’t…

Welcome to Rivian ownership. In case you haven't noticed, it's not a Tesla and has it's own quirks. As Microsoft used to say years ago when people reported a supposed bug "This behavior is by design."

This has been a common complaint about Rivian since day 1. You might consider it unacceptable, but none the less, it's not a defect. Why they didn't choose to provide better sound isolation and dampening is anyone's guess. Most people get used to it and in a few weeks won't even notice it. Enjoy the ride!

Edit: Additional clarification - it should make the really loud noise primarily when pre-heating or cooling and the interior or battery is far from the "comfort" zone. As it approaches temperature target, the variable speed heat pump will slow down as the load reduces.
