I see the point but think about normal gauges on an ice car. You see the gauges for oil pressure and nobody worries about it until it hits the red. I guess the difference here is it's showing the actual numbers which I can see in some of my vehicles like my mustang, but I guess people don't care because it's a non ev

I think if they just put a little label over each gauge that says "normal" and then replicates whatever warning would be on the main cluster when it's out of spec it would probably limit a lot of concern from people.

As a side note it's amazing how many folks are buying rubians without being obsessed about them like a lot of us and just saw them around and decide to pick one up. The Facebook forums are full of people buying them and really have no knowledge of the vehicle at all until they get in it. There are a few people that were taking off on road trips this week that had no idea there was even a mobile charger in the car. Really good to see them selling the vehicles for the little worrisome about potential bad experiences through the user error or lack of user knowledge
We were traveling in New York on road trip Charlottesville to Boston this morning, 40 degreesF, 75mph, and happened to check the temps. We were preconditioning, and all of a sudden the temp of all 4 motors spiked from 125 to 277 (redlined at 275) with temps rising a degree every second or two. We pulled off the interstate, and watched temps drop almost as fast. Called Road assistance, who said not to worry until it hits 304f. This being the first road trip since the temp screen was added, and the preconditioning happening for the first time since then, the precon' explanation sounds feasible. And here I thought I screwed the pooch for bragging on the truck on the forum last week! No issues in 14,000 miles, with only maintenance costs being to rotate, and a gallon of washer juice. Thank you Rivian team!

If it was cold then the motors were deliberately running hot to warm up your HV battery.
This is exactly what mine does and this makes perfect sense. Ambient temperatures in the 20's - 30's outside and when I begin to drive all 4 motors reach the red area and then immediately begin to cool down very rapidly.

I’ve had my Rivian R1S for a while and I’m approaching 10,000 miles. I did a road trip from Georgia to Pennsylvania for the Thanksgiving holiday, mostly on conserve mode as I drove through EV hell of WV arriving in PA on Saturday.

Sunday I jumped in the truck, and it was still in conserve mode from the road trip and as I’m driving it just feels like it’s a little bit sluggish. I clicked into the data center and I noticed the front two motors are over 200° and I’d only driven probably 5 to 8 miles.
I immediately switched over to all purpose mode and within seconds the temperature dropped to normal ranges between 100 and 110°.

I watch the entire 780 mile trip and never saw them run hot, I kept watching since then and nothing like this just happened again. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
We were on road trip, 45f, headed for DCFC, motor temps spiked to 280f. Pulled off, temps dropped uncannily fast. Called emergency services, she said don't worry till they reach 303f. No explanation. Cancelled preconditioning, resulting in normal temps.

This is not an error. This is expected based on preconditioning the battery.

Ice motors run at 200f continuously for years, not to mention the combustion chamber and exhaust in the 1000s. What's hot for a human body is inconsequential for a machine. Should be fine.
