Gen 2 Critical Battery Issue

Gen 2 standard pack, picked up June 8th, has 296 miles on it. Went to take my son to speech therapy on Friday and I got a "Critical Battery Issue" warning along with the red warning light for 12v battery. It will charge to full and everything works as far as we can tell. We did a complete reboot and it did not fix the problem. I was able to back it out of the garage so they could load it onto a flatbed today to take it to the Costa Mesa SC. As per recommendation from customer service, we did not attempt to drive the vehicle after the battery warning came on. Hoping for a quick resolution, but mentally preparing myself for it to be weeks or longer before we get it back. I will post again when we hear from the SC about what's going on with our R1S. I created this thread because all of the critical battery threads seem to be for Gen 1 vehicles.

Very unfortunate. My Gen 1, with over 21k miles, gave me a warning for the first time on Saturday right after I unplugged from an EVgo DCFC. Thankfully, after a hard reset it didn't come back. My understanding is that usually for many of these types of things, if they are going to fail, they fail early. I'm sure they will take care of you and you can get back to enjoying your vehicle.

Thanks to you both! I got a message in the app today letting me know they will give me an update on Wednesday. I just miss my R1S and want it back lol.

When something like this happens, does Rivian give you a loaner car automatically to leave the SC in?

Mine did the same thing after a charge at a 140 kW Autel charger. Called Rivian, they asked to do a hard reset. That was the only time this has happened so far.

They may or may not give you a Rivian loaner, but they will set you up with a rental otherwise. They ordered me a Lyft to Enterprise when mine was in for service.

I was told they have loaners, but I would have to talk to the SC directly. It's a first come, first served basis. They work with Enterprise if they don't have loaners available. Fortunately, we also have a Lexus NX PHEV and a Maverick hybrid, so I decided not to get a loaner/rental. I was in a fender bender with the NX a couple months ago and had to get a rental from Enterprise. The service was outstanding (Rancho Santa Margarita in South Orange County), but the cars don't have the features that you might be accustomed to. The first car was a Ford Edge that was black with a black interior. It had carplay and I'm pretty sure the engine was a 2.0L I4 with 250 hp. I took it since it was all they had, but the interior got really hot and it felt very sluggish. The next day I returned it and got a Mazda CX-90 that was much easier to drive. I'm happy they took care of me when I needed a rental, but this time I'm just going to use my husband's car and try not to get into another accident!

We are wondering what causes this to happen in the first place though.

Connector housing could have been cracked on assembly. Moisture/debris got in later on and caused a fault?

New process, AFAIK Rivian is the only one in the industry building their packs this way. Problems are bound to happen. The good part about it is they don't have to replace the entire battery.
