Service is a matter of where it is. My service on the Launch editions has been truly outstanding. Best experience I have ever had, every time. But I live in Southern CA. Its growth pains. They are doing everything right. It will just take time for the rest of the country to experiece what we have here.
Lucid. Great technology. The dumbest strategy one can imagine which will kill them regardless of their funding. Start ups have to take all the right steps at the right time. They started with the worst one imaginable. No time to recover regardless of their backing.

I agree. Rivian is making a lot of the right business decisions and with how good their products are they will surpass Tesla. The culture of innovation at Rivian is alive and well but Tesla isn’t listening to customers. Musk wants to be Steve Jobs, telling customers what they need instead of asking them. Only problem is Musk has chosen wrong.

Tesla’s entire lineup is stale and uninspired. When even legacy auto is producing more interesting models your company is in trouble. The refreshes I’ve seen so far aren’t anything special and the styling and finishings of Tesla are sub par. All they had going for them was software and the fact that they were EVs. Lots more companies have EVs and the software draw doesn’t matter to the average person.

Really hoping the timing of my R1S lease last week works out in my favor for the R3X launch.

I end up with spinning tires on every launch in the tri-motor R1S, but I got the AT tires. I'm not sure that Rivian could really do much better with quad motor, since the fronts are chirping over and over on my tri, and they are probably going to share the exact same rear drivetrain. I might try to put the Gen1 sport tires+wheels on my R1S, but I don't think I'll be able to find the time to do it soon.

I'm definitely less interested in the quad after having gotten the tri, even if Rivian would let me trade in without a loss at all.
I completely agree that the quad is going to gain very little in the real world and the addition of a power to the front end will probably only look good on paper. However Since I feel that we have to be getting close and the projected price difference is not a lot It still makes sence to keep waiting.

The other thing is that my intention is to build my own R1SX supertruck even if they dont this might take a year or so and I dont want to look back and think "I wish I started with the quad". Assuming it comes out just as currently shown my plan is:
  • Stage 1 / Street
    • Custom wide fenders to support an even wider tire and a little more offset
      • Im thinking 305 front and 325 rear
    • Extreem lightweight 22" forged rims Wider with more offset
    • Larger 2 part lightweight Carbon ceramic brake rotors. Probably keep stock caliper on a relocation bracket
    • All weight reduction while keeping it a "normal vehicle" Im talking right down to titanium lug nuts.
  • Stage 2 / Trophy Truck
    • Lift kit - Stage 2 will only happen if someone reputable offers a full kit. I have talked to
      • Hopfully 2-3" over whatever base hight is for each setting while maintaining proper alignment and CV angles - but I think the kit drops the subframe to avoid changes to the drivetrain
    • @DCE who had a prototype, they said they put it on pause but not canceled.
    • Any additional body work added to the Fender flairs from stage 1 to fit larger tires
      • Possibly relocation of minor parts and some grinding to make room to mold some fender inner fender linings back
    • Largest Tires I can fit - probably something like 38" x 13.5

I have seriously digressed but hopefully someone will find this interesting LOL

I hadn't thought about this before, but Ascent drivetrains might be better designed with regard to the CV angles, since the rear motor doesn't have the external clutches on both sides. I'll have to pull panels and measure.

I think issues with Quad at these extreme levels.
Reviewers last year had them really pulling to 1 side on launch. Maybe just prototypes but seems like as others have avoided quads could be a delay issue until all programming just right.

I can't get over the wind noise issues mentioned. I have to slam my doors on both of my G1's and quiet like a vault. Only time I've had any noise is with Kansas 50mph cross wind which buffets on any vehicle I've had.

I think that is a great synopsis of the current state of play. Out of all those, Rivian does have the worst service as a bonus.
Guess users have a lot of different opinions - I'd say Rivian by far has the best service of all automakers on that list.

With the high end EV market all but evaporating, launching a quad motor Rivian should be a much lower priority than getting R2 built, tested and in production. Maybe there are 5,000 units/year of demand for the new quad Rivian given the power of the dual performance and tri. Feels like it it, and should be, we'll get to it when we get to it. Or never. It could go the way of the Model S/X Plaid+ which is technically feasible but not a strong enough business case to put it in the world.

PS the Lucid and Model X are both minivans so not comparable across use cases.

PPS the Volvo EX90 is probably closer to R1S as a three-row somewhat boxy SUV, and having a hard time selling.
Yeah I think Rivian should just sell the quad to make the company more money and aid their progress to profitability. The current Rivian losses are not sustainable if the company is to survive. If that means take more time on the Quad release to control costs thats great. If that means an even larger markup from Tri to Quad that is fine. I do think they should keep it as an option but yeah its not going to be a lot of units sold or critical to the future of the company as the R2 is.

The issue with rivians service network is that it's so varied right now. I've had some of the very worst service experiences I've frankly ever heard of at one of their locations, and now am (so far) experiencing some of the best at another.

Personally - I just hope the quad comes out soon so those Michelin Pilot Sport tires become available. Its crazy there isn't a single high performance tire available for my 800hp vehicle.

You'd think one company would make a single model even if it was crazy overpriced at $900 a tire or such.

Yeah perhaps this is the case. I've enjoyed all my service in Austin and its one of the bigger centers.

I will say the lack of service centers is certainly a negative. Will probably need the R2 to be a success to where there are a ton more models on the road until that dramatically improves.
