Hey all, I have a 2025 R1S and had Rivian Service install the new Qi2 charging pad that's shipping with the new 2026 models. I posted about it here:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...wireless-charger-installed.59627/post-1041818

However, shortly after that I started having a ton of issues: thermal warning, key card not detected, charging failure. It culminated 3 days later when it went into turtle mode while on the freeway. I rebooted it drove a few more miles and turtle mode happened again. After that I limped it home and had Rivian tow in. Turns out the new charging pad isn't compatible with my 2025 (for now), so their eng department will need to investigate.

However, since Rivian did the install, they're going to put the old charging pad back and reimburse me for the retrofit. Those of you with a Gen2 that didn't come with the Qi2 pad should hold off and not try to do it on your own or even through Rivian if they for some reason allow you to. Just a FYI.

2026 R1T here…ordered the Qi2 assembly directly through the Rivian Service Portal, received and DIY installed on 6/15, been using regularly without issue since. Just a personal anecdote. Hope your issue gets resolved.

Good to know. Doesn't seem worth the potential hassle.

Perhaps you got a bad one? I also bought through the portal and installed in both my 2025 Gen2 R1T and 2025 Gen2 R1S and neither had any issue. Plug and play.

weird. well that's what rivian service told me on the phone. the tech did a software update when he installed my pad so maybe the software+pad combo wasn't good.

No update necessary for the new pad...it is plug and play...the only info I found was that it was suggested that you do a restart. Rivian tried to tell me that they had to program my key cards (and charge me for it) for the new pad, which is also not true...key cards work fine. I am on 2026.15.30.

Did you ever get an update from service? Been wanting to do the upgrade.

I retrofitted my ‘26 tri max myself a couple of months ago and working without issue. I also have one of the vents pointed at the pad so my phone charges cool all the time.

After getting the car back I've had other warning lights pop up again (no key detected, clear cameras), so I'm beginning to think the problems had nothing to do with the charging pad but instead is 2026.15.32 that was put on the vehicle. It's back in service now so we'll see what happens.

I believe this is unrelated to the charging pad. I have sold about 15 of these to g2 owners, I'm sure many have 2025 model vehicles and not a single one has reported an issue. Theres a chance the pad itself is bad I guess and injecting crap into the can network but thats an easy thing to test by simply unplugging it. The newer charging pad takes literally 2 seconds to pop up and unplug.

They work great in the g1 too with the wiring adapter I made too!

i'm glad its working well for everyone else. i just hope they can fix the software quickly for me.

That said, for the few days I had the Qi2 pad, it charged fairly slow. I saw someone post that they were getting 15W I think, but I doubt I was even getting that given the iPhones time estimation to get to 80% was like 30ish minutes for maybe 20% (60-80%)

You've sold them to G2 owners? I'm an interested G2 owner. How do I go about buying one from you?
