Google Cast and YouTube release timing

From the email Rivian sent today:

Connect+ will continue to improve with future software updates. Coming soon, Google Cast and YouTube will join your other content apps, and in the next few months, Gear Guard Live Cam will give you the power to monitor your vehicle from pretty much anywhere using the Rivian app.

It’s interesting that Google Cast and YouTube are stated as “coming soon”, but GGLC is in a few months. RivianTrackr tells us that GGLC is coming in 2024.35.

My Rivianology assessment points to Google Cast and YouTube being software locked in the current software (2024.31). Their release will coincide with the expiration of the Connect+ trial. Rivian’s current contract with AT&T may specifically restrict video streaming or Rivian simply doesn’t want to absorb the data cost without paying Connect+ subscribers.

Weird, Gear Guard Live is being released this month. I was under the impression Google Cast and Youtube will be released next month. That's the rumor at least.

I agree with your prediction.

But disagree with Rivian's definition of "free trial". It isn't a trial if you don't enable any of the new features until after the trial period ends.

The only thing we really got to try out was the new subscribe button.

I guess technically we got to try out the supper buggy apple music app. But based quality of that bit of software I can't imagine that anyone is tempted to sign up. Everything else is either not yet implemented, or are features that were previously considered standard features for the last 2 years.

Rivian wants people to sign up for connect+ and without the added functions there isn't as much incentive to do so..

Google cast has to come soon...that functionality makes it worth it for me.

I’m willing to bet the marketing team mixed the two up given that the “later” live gear guard is already slated in an announced code release and the “soon” casting function isnt.

But, really yeah. Rivian’s marketing and communications team have indeed had a few missteps over the years.

It’s a business decision. Rivian cuts a deal with the LTE provider and the OEM vendor (ATT/VzB) dictate terms on data utilization. They do this because Rivian gets a deeply discounted rate for buying in bulk. If they decide to open it up, all Rivian vehicles would immediately impact capacity management and data utilization.
in the case of using a personal hotspot, the cost of the hotspot includes the cost for unlimited data but it’s based on the individual user consumption so far less impact on capacity. Hope this helps
