You are worried about $100 adapter and $20 shipping? They are paying $900 for rental car for 2 weeks and it could be extended to 4. All I needed was regular maintenance, and a suspension noise check. Checking if something is broken should take a lift and 5 minutes of inspection.i almost felt bad and thought of returning rental. I did decline rental once in favor of Uber credits.

Generally folks don’t want to pay for the truck or any accessories. We all want the best deal possible understandably.

At the lower price points Rivian shouldn’t include many/if any extras. On the higher trim vehicles like Tri and Quad, more extras should be included.

my two cents take it or leave it.

Rivian’s goals include turning a profit or working aggressively toward that end and they can’t do that by charging too little for the truck or giving away too much on the lower margin trims.

This forum has significantly more drama than any forum I’ve joined over the past 25 years... and it negatively impacts the quality of the forum.

RIVN is nowhere near a pivotal point, other than they’re hemorrhaging money at a slower rate than other EV companies...and they are likely years away from making a profit.

Indeed, Mt Whitney is the highest mountain in the lower 48, just a bit higher than CO’s Mt Elbert. It was a bit of a joke, the reference to the 14ers. ? Mauna Kea in Hawaii is just 197 short of being a 14er. And I just learned about Gannett Peak, 13,810 feet.

Had we gone to the metric system during the early 1980s, 14ers wouldn’t even be a reference point.

So I’m pissed at Rivian. I received a shipment notification about my NACS adapter arriving next Tuesday. Why am I upset?

• It’s not because the adapter doesn’t come in a robust choice of colors.
• It’s not because the adapter doesn’t double as a hand vac.
• It’s not because the adapter makes my ass look big.
• It’s not even because the adapter effing doesn’t have CarPlay.

I am upset because they are sending this free of charge with free shipping. I am upset at Rivian for sending these to us free of charge when they are at a pivotal point in the evolution of their business for which cash flow is of paramount importance.

Yeah, one can take the short sighted stance that it’s good because it’s free. I personally think that is a 14er-sized pile of bullshit (Google “14er” in relation to mountains in Colorado, and no, no other place has 14ers, right COdogman?).

I am going to call Rivian and ask them to charge me. So now is the time to tag this post with spurious, caustic little laugh emojis, the kind that I use too often!!

I assume that “WTF” can only stand for “What Terrific Fun”!! My life span actually increased by 30 minutes after posting this, at least according to my United MileagePlus account. So yours may have increased by 4 minutes.

Your comment about balancing sales and marketing is honestly a very good point. It could have been made with a bit less snottiness. But I would definitely have to look in the mirror on that one. ?

Good morning all!! I very sincerely want to thank everyone for your responses to this post. Some have been funny, as was the intention in part when I wrote the original post. And almost all have been really helpful with broadening my perspective on what Rivian is doing with the free adapters. One of the latest responses about the marketing program is what prompted me to write this specific message. So again, thank you!!

I feel the free adapter is sort of an apology for not meeting the RAN goals they had initially stated back in 2022. I seem to remember they talked a big game about number of installs (600 sites all across the USA) and are way short of that goal being under 100 locations last I counted.

If RAN was up and had tons of locations or the other EV networks (EA or EVgo) were reliable this wouldn't even matter.
