First of all, I love my Rivian, ok, I love the look of it, the technology, the ride, the power, everything...... but.

Today I received at my office the all weather floor mats, I love how were shipped in a nice branded box.

At 3 pm I went back home, today instead of using the R1T to go to work I used my Volvo v90 Cross Country (the one being replaced by the new Rivian)

I put the 2 back seats down, open the trunk and put the box inside of if (exhibit #1) close the trunk and went to visit some clients before going back home. I'm in south Florida, so the rain is something usual, 5 minutes rain then a killer sun then rain again, that's Florida.

When I get back home after visit all the clients, the parked on the side of the Rivian, side by side and I guess, does the box fit on the bed ? Can I do the same that I did with the Volvo with the Rivian, and the answer is NO (exhibit #2) the box do not fit on the bed with the back gate closed.

As a side note, in the Volvo I have room to spare, and put inside even a larger box (exhibit #3)

So guys, here is the question, how do you transport a box like that (which fit on any wagon or SUV on the market) without being exposed to the elements and being exposed to also the regular local thief. ?

I would just bungee the box to my crossbars and head out. If it’s raining I would move it another day. Or, just take whatever is in the box out and angle it in the bed. Done.

I do hope the size of the bed was not a surprise! :sun:

It's hard to tell from the pic, but I assume you tried the gear tunnel? It looks like it might come close.

In any case, I'm sure I will share what I perceive to be your frustration, at least occaisionally.

I'm coming from a 6' truck bed and lots of things fit easily that will have to be either "shoe horned" or just will not fit in the Rivian. But I have no doubt that all the things the R1T offers that the Tacoma does not (a very LONG list) will more than make up for any compromises I'll have to make.

But that's me......

As @connoisseurr stated, you've got the wrong vehicle. period.

When I had a larger box than that...I just put it diagonally, and it fit in the bed just fine.

It’s a truck. Keep ratchet straps, blankets and a tarp in it.

This situation I would leave the tailgate down. Throw the tarp over it, strap it and call it a day…

Or if it was raining a decent amount I’d probably leave the tailgate uptarp over the box and close the tonneu as much as possible, no strap.

This doesn't seem like much of an issue with the floor mat box, but I ran into this same issue with a digital piano I bought on Tuesday when it was raining. I wound up putting it in the cab it fit there.

There is no bed cap on sight for this truck ?
A bed cap wouldn't have helped you. Even with a cap, it's still a short bed, so the box would have needed the tailgate down.

The R1T is my first truck, and to be honest I'm finding the results a bit mixed in terms of versality.

Sure it's nice for things that get dirty like my folding kayak or my inflatable paddle board. It's also nice to have the gear tunnel for stuff you want out of the way.

But, there is so much stuff that doesn't fit in the back not so much because of depth but height. The Rivian has very little height between the bed and the cover.

In fact I think an R1S would be a better fit for me if I could buy it without the 3rd row seats as long as the second row went completely flat.

The other thing I find a bit irksome with the R1T is the lack of any kind of environmental protection. I went off-roading on a dirt road, and when I got home I realized the entire back was dusty under the cover. It's easy to wash out, but it was a lot more dirty than I anticipated.
