Yeah, you’re probably right. That said, are the body components painted separately? I thought they would be colored in the same cycle, because even if it’s the same half moon grey, between batches, the colors could be slightly off. And painting them together helps ensure uniformity across the whole car…

The shell of the body is not painted in the same area as the body panels, otherwise paint quality assurance would have caught the defect before it left the paint shop. Most likely this might be painted by a vendor before it meets up with the shell for assembly.

This is likely something that final QA missed during inspection before it left for logistics and shipping. Mistakes are sometimes made and it's good that Rivian stopped to review this lot before it endes up into the hands of the customers(minus the one that almost made it).

I must be cursed, Half Moon Gray is my selected color. Does this mean delays. I might as well go with Esker Silver and save $1500. With my luck some LA Silver get mixed in.

I am glad this was caught. Rivian still needed to be doing better, by now.

To me a minor issue, to some, like this can have a very negative impact on sales, prospective new owner confidence. They mismatched a color. What else could be missed and then labeled as non warranty work?

I think folks need to stop defending Rivian so much. Knowing failures will happen.

I am holding on to my G1 Q T, beyond the warranty period. The stability and longevity of Rivian really matters to me.

If I were Rivian, I would list it as a Two Tone Paint included with the launch package for a limited time and call it a day.
