The "pop up" demo drive in Duncan, SC was half moon grey with no issues FWIW. Must been some limited run that got messed up.

I’m not concerned either. This is a relatively small mistake. As inconvenient as it is for prospective owners, it’s not a life/death issue. Nor is it indicative of a fundamental engineering flaw. Vehicle manufacturing involves thousands of parts and steps. Mistakes happen. No need to overreact. More important is how they handle and correct the mistake.

Despite all this - Rivian have made signifigant noise about all their testing and post assembly QA. Also note at that at the time of production of that video - the mini was around dead last in terms of reliability and initial build quality - the factory was famous in the UK for its poor morale.

Anyone who has visited the Rivian factory will have seen the post assembly inspection area - where supposedly ~10% of cars are taken for a detailed inspection to assess assembly line quality and provide feedback to assembly teams and processes. As someone who has had they joys of experiencing the output of one of these 'enhanced inspection' R1's - its' worrying to see the same level of care being applied here. I'd be more forgiving of a non visible detail than 'up to 800 vehicles' have been impacted by large external component being obviously cosmetically misaligned: including some making it to delivery centers prior to the 'stop production' button being hit. Hopefully this number doesn't reflect the number of R2s that came off the line, but the number of incorrectly painted facias. It really talks to there being gaps at multiple stages in the process - from inspection of components during intake, to people on the production line commenting, though to insufficient post assembly qa and onward. Say what you like about six-sigma, but Rivian clearly have a way to go when it comes to manufacturing.

Is this a big problem? Not on its own. But it talks to the ongoing growing pains at RIvian.

Anybody here actually take delivery of Half Moon Bay? If so , was it on time or delayed ?

Some folks have taken delivery, their vehicles were not in the batch of 800 effected by this. Rivian has already started assigning new VINs to those affected. I was supposed to pickup Saturday, got an email this morning saying it was canceled because I was assigned a new VIN.
New date is 31st, hope this one sticks as I’m not sure how much longer I can survive without a vehicle in my area. We literally have 3 Uber drivers max on any given day.

Got mine last week, no issue. Guessing with my VIN 16XX it was somewhere in the "middle" of production between the early deliveries and current batches.

If I were Rivian, I would list it as a Two Tone Paint included with the launch package for a limited time and call it a day.

Or some other kind of modest discount.

Errors that don't affect drivability may come with a good story.
