This all-electric hannukia goes for 8 nights and most oddly is the only seasonal display at our farmland rural senior center in an area with barely a minyan for miles and miles .
These things are usually small tokens.
All it took was someone with chutzpah ( and $2800!)

Thanks - Shaarai Shomayim is the 5th oldest active congregation in the US - our cemetery was purchased in 1747. Our current building was built in 1896. All parking is on the street and the congregation has voted multiple times to keep our building rather than moving out of downtown Lancaster to a new space with parking.

But the BIG question this holiday (which I didn't think was poll-worthy) is this: Applesauce or sour cream? I have a mixed family...split 50/50 between the two.

Ok we admit to living chocolate on the halvah.

It's a Reform congregation and our Rabbi is very tolerant of the views of others, but he does remind us that putting ketchup on a latke turns it into a hashbrown! He's in the sour cream camp...

My father, may his memory be a blessing, was from Rochester, NY. I think he grieved the loss of immediacy of NY bagels for years after our family moved to Pacific Palisades in 1962 (I was born four months into the Kennedy Admiration, alte kahker that I am?). Later on there was a decent Los Angeles bagel place on Pico just west of Robertson Blvd. But even with their bagels my dad used to leave them out on a window sill in the kitchen to become less “bageloid” in the words of children’s book author Daniel Pinkwater (he used to do wonderful commentaries from time to time on various subjects for NPR’s Morning Edition, one of which was on the demise of the true bagel).

Coming up in 3 years. She is only 10 but its been a tough run this last year. Diagnosed with 2 kinds of cancer and given 1 to 3 months to live. She has been a pin cushion for high tech pharmaceuticals. She was given the newly available Cancer Vaccine and Gilvetmab which is a recombinant canine monclonal antibody over 10 biweekly treatments. Along with a toe removal, splenectomy, oral sarcoma removal and 4 radiation treatment. She is back to mostly normal and is continuing her rabbinical studies and doing a lot of local postgraduate smell mapping.
Here is a pup shot from Mt. rainier. She enjoys EVs. Never liked the smell of Diesel.
