Headlights Blinding When Trying to Plug In Charger

I do almost all my charging at night, and when I go to plug in the charger I can't see a thing because the headlights are glaring in my eyes. Am I doing something wrong? Why can't the headlights turn off/dim/go to charging mode when I open the charging port? I thought I was just a newbie to plugging in the charge chords, but I'm still struggling, although not as much, almost 3 months in. Yes, I get it connected within a few seconds but I'm tired of swearing at my headlights every time I charge the car.

Am I the only one?

Is there a setting somewhere?

Yes, I'm 61 years old and wear glasses....and can operate my TV remote all by myself, thank you.

I complained about that via the app just the other day:
"I must complain about the lights and the charge port door on my R1S. I drive home and park. I open the charge port door and try to plug in. The light bar is glaring in my eyes. Everything inside the charge port door is black. The tip of the charge cable is black AND the light inside the charge port door is OFF. That makes it very hard to plug in. I humbly suggest that when the charge port door is opened you turn OFF the front light bar and turn ON the light inside the charge port door, then turn it off once the charge cable is plugged in. Thanks."

If what you are asking for is a way to turn off the headlights/DRL after you park and get out of the car.

There is an option in the settings -> Vehicle -> Display and Lighting -> Guide Lights
If you turn guide lights off, when you park and get out of the vehicle and close the driver door, the headlights/DRL's will turn off. This also means it gets pretty dark around the vehicle as well.

The guide lights are different.

Seriously... either avert your eyes so you are not looking directly at the headlights, or walk to the side of the vehicle and approach the charge port from the rear. As a last resort, as others have suggested, wait for approx 1 minute until the headlight shut off.

I’m right handed so holding the charge plug with it, then cup my left hand over the charge port to block the parking light and let me see the actual charge port.

If the charge socket is too dark, then use the flashlight they conveniently put in the door.

True, in gen1 the port light is circling the whole area, not in gen2. How about cutting some white reflective tape and putting it around (inside, on the dark plastic) the port for better visibility?

Perfect reference for being blinded by the light! As a little kid I always thought the lyric was, ”wrapped up like a douche,” but officially it’s, “revved up like a deuce,” as in revved up like a deuce coupe hot rod.
