Headlights not coming on in the rain

I've noticed that if it's at all light out the headlights in auto don't come on in the rain, even though the auto wipers do.

This is a safety and legal issue, in my state (Virginia) as well as others you're required to have your headlights on whenever your wipers are on.

Yes, I can turn them on manually, but I shouldn't have to: the truck knows it's raining as evidenced by it turning on the wipers.

Yea…this has been a recurring question since automatic headlights were invented. No idea if there is a particular reason why so many automakers have ignored the simple concept of tying the windshield wipers to the headlights. At this point I can’t help but think that there must be a reason it isn’t done.

There’s nothing in settings somewhere that could be toggled? That’s pretty common in modern cars.

Well if this was the case my headlights will always be on in the PNW. ?

Legality aside, what is the reason with this? Rivian has such a strong DRL. Are you sure laws don’t state that a vehicle has to have a certain brightness? Because Rivian may meet that. It’s not like lights will help you see in the rain.

I think it’s to be seen in the rain, not so much to see.

I assumed this was happening, since it has been in at least the last 3 vehicles I have owned....
