I know tire wear is a hotly contested subject, but looking for some experience related opinions here. I'm picking up my R1S in the next few weeks, and the guide, or whatever they're called now, has said they would swap on any wheel combo I would like. I love the look of the 20" AT wheels, but I've read how they tend to be rather noisy as they wear (which is understandable for an AT tire) and wear rather quickly. I've seen the MT article on 21" tire wear, but I don't like those wheels anyway. Against the 20" AT I would be considering the 22" Sports, but haven't seen much info here about how those wear. Obviously with 7000 pounds to haul around and 900 lb/ft on tap, no tire will last too long, but curious how they compare. The other consideration is that I live in a very snowy area (Syracuse, NY) so the 20" AT would probably better in the winter, but again, haven't seen much info on how the 22" tires compare in the snow. I'm sure they're not ice/snow tires, but if they turn to rocks (curling stones?) in the cold that's not good either. Thanks!

Get the 20's. Use them for 20k miles and then decide if you want a dedicated winter tire, AS range extensions, sticky sport tire, or all of the above.
I started with 20s, added winter tires for my second winter and it was a champ in the snow, about the same range, and quieter.

Now I have General Grabbers HTS60 AT tires which has really increased my range and are nearly silent. The stock AT were very noisy after 25k miles (down to 7/32nd tread) so I didn't want to listen to the drone nor trust another winter on them.

There is also a great Google doc showing all the tire size options here somewhere.

Get the 22” (dark is sharp)they are so much quieter. When it’s time to change out the tires ditch the Pirelli and you will never look back.
If it’s in your budget get the 20” and what to buy the new 22” with the areo and use those in the summer.

I’ve driven both on a R1T. The 22” handles better and look nicer in kneel mode. The 20” offers a smoother ride and more tire options. I’ve had no experience in the snow. I would lean towards 20” considering where you live.

21” - 1 tire option
22” - 2-3, maybe a couple more
20” - 100s (5-10 really great options)
Worst part of 20” OEM is stiff/bumpy/noisey, but lots of replacement options down the road…

EDIT-Can always buy aftermarket 20” setup for $2-3k if you get the 21/22 OEM option…most pick 21” since it’s 10% more efficient than 22”….

Having a truck with AT tires, the noise is there, and in an EV which is inherently quieter than an ICE vehicle, I think going with the 22-inch option is best. I like the look of the darks, but if your curb them, it's silver and very noticeable. The brights blend a little better. The R1S I am getting is for my wife, so I am going with the brights.

Is the guide your working with local to your SC, or is it from the sales part of the business? I have been discussing with my sales person waiting for the wheel swap to be offered, which last we spoke was not. This will be helpful information to take to him letting him know that others are being offered this.

Thanks!

I went with the 22" because I wanted to maximize range, have other tire options, and I will realistically never go off roading. I've been very happy with them, but I would plan on getting a set of winter tires too. I live in Michigan, and when we had our first snowfall in November, I was sliding around more than I liked. I purchased a set of Michelin X-Ice, and I don't think I slid an inch all winter after that! I don't mind having two sets of tires since I have room to store them, and I figure in the long run it's not too much more expensive to just purchase the second set up front.

I have the 22" on my R1, my original order was for the 20"..

Although the 22" do look better, I wish I had stayed with the 20". Ride improvement alone would have been worth it.

I replaced the OEM AT tires at 14k because they were ridiculously loud. Also one had a minor vibration that couldn't be balanced out, so I assume it was some sort of damage or separation, don't know if it was a defect or damage. I will use the truck off road quite a bit, so I have no choice besides ATs, but have considered a set of 22s to swap in for street use. You also lose some range with the AT tire/wheel. I would absolutely never buy the AT package if the truck is a street vehicle.
