This! You don't get all the energy back on regen that you expended to get moving at the speed before regen was engaged. You get better efficiency driving so regen doesn't have to activate. (The exception being extremely long descents which don't exist in my area) Rivian doesn't blend regen in on the brake pedal though, so if you are touching the brake pedal, you're reducing your efficiency.
It will vary based on where you are driving. Also, having it in high on long descents may result in regen being reduced quicker so depending on the decent you may capture more energy in standard or low settings.
It's the same as driving an ICE ....avoid using the brakes except....
You want to avoid slowing down period but if you have to slow down prefer regen over friction brakes where safe, reasonable, and possible.
I prefer high regen at all times because it gives me max slowing power when I need it. Even in high regen if your experienced you don't go into regen unless you want to slow down.
