Highway Assist Turned Off Around NYC

Highway Assist (lane correction, not smart cruise control) is now "unavailable" on all the roads I drive on in NYC and Westchester County. I called the Rivian help line and they said that they disabled the feature on all roads around the city in agreement with New York State regulators. They did not provide more details or any update on future plans. Apparently, the feature was not deemed safe in the area and it was deprecated. This is quite a negative development for me as it was a daily used feature. Have others had a similar experience? Any update on the future plans on correcting this deficiency?

It still pisses me off that they don't offer a "dumb" cruise control as a fall back option when the adaptive cruise control is unavailable. Such as when the front camera is blocked by snow/ice/fog/etc.

Sooo...times when you shouldn't be using cruise anyway. Got it.

While I'd honestly prefer dumb cruise to their implementation of ACC, they did actually fix the sun glare and even rain issue where it would refuse to work. Now they just throw a warning up that the camera can't see very well and that the driver should be extra attentive. Effectively ACC becomes dumb cruise at that point.

Weird.

Why would something like that only affect Rivian and not all the other L2 vehicle manufactures.

The only thing similar that I know of is there is a small area in Canada where Tesla isn't allowed to have FSD operational. But, that's quite different than freeway lane assist.

Update. The latest software update has re-enabled Highway Assist around the NYC region. Yay!

can you use highway assist on the West Side Highwaay and the FDR?

I use autopilot 1.0 on my 2015 Tesla Model S daily on both roads in Manhattan and hope to keep similar functionality when I take delivery of my R1S this coming January.
