My temp tags expired on 8/25 and my guide is now working to get me a rental. Sounds like they won’t get the registration and plates completed until October after a problem with the initial process.

Not really looking forward to driving a rental for a month but I guess stuff happens sometimes…

I'd email RJ. That's totally unacceptable.

Update - Finally received my title on Sept 1, almost 5+ months after taking delivery but no registration. I’m assuming this is because I was transferring my custom plates from my prior truck. I never would have thought this was going to be the most difficult part of the purchase process….

Final Chapter to T&R saga — as noted earlier I received my title and was still waiting on receiving the registration which would confirm the transfer of my prior plates — I now have both and want to give a shout out to the OR DMV for all their help processing my T&R quickly (2 weeks). The real problem was it took Rivian T&R 5 months (from mid-March to late-August) to file my T&R application and file it correctly - a major process failure.

^ Major process fail for sure. My tags expire in two days and the DMV just told me they finally received my T&R from Rivian last week and it contained numerous errors and had to be sent back to be corrected and resubmitted. I email my guide asking him to help out where he can but also gave them my opinion of WTF is taking Rivian so long to get T&R submitted to begin with? 3 months worth of time and they wait till the last hour to get the ball rolling. Seriously frustrating.

Georgia here... Temp tags expire 9/16... Been following up with my Guide for several weeks when I first saw this thread. Was told that everything was sent in on 9/7 then was told an expected completion date of 9/28 :( and as of today, still no record though in the GA system.

In the meantime since the temp tag wasn't from GA, they have no record and can't grant an extension. I also called Illinois Secretary of State and they make no exceptions to grant extensions (and I don't even know if they could for this and the person I talked with was just totally confused and was just asking me why Rivian took so long to file... I'm like, I KNOW but its not the reason I called).

Driving on expired tag is like a $125 fine here so I might just risk it/deal with it. Am I missing something else?

Stuff like this doesn’t make state Attorneys General more apt to allow Rivian to do business in their state.

Because of all the reported issues with RegUSA, I asked my Guide early on if I could register it myself. Was told yes early on.

Then right before delivery, was told no. "It's much better now." So at delivery, I signed the paperwork for them to send in.

Guess what UPS just delivered? All my signed papers back, with a note "here you go, take this to your DMV and file it with the proper payment!"

Uh... It took 3 weeks to send me back the papers that you had physically present at delivery? And Rivian took my $1048 in "Vehicle License, Registration, Transfer, and Titling Fees" but aren't actually paying any of it to my DMV.

Just checked, and the first DMV appointment in my metro area is November 8. My Illinois temp tag expires a week later. Sure hope there aren't any delays...

I'm in a rental for the second day of what I'm being told will be about a month because of mistakes made with the original paperwork. I hope Rivian is charging RegUSA...

And for anyone in a similar situation or soon to be: Rivian will not cover the cost of gas; only the rental is covered. Kind of lame if you ask me.

I took delivery in late June with a 90-day temporary tag. My Maryland tag and registration arrived about 45 days later. The only hiccup I had was I had to send a notarized power of attorney to the titling group in Normal about two weeks after I got the truck. My guide even sent me a prepaid FedEx label.

I just wanted to inject some positivity into this thread.

I think I will be joining the Rivian rental fleet. I have until Tuesday. My guide doesn't have any updates. I told him to start setting up an EV rental. I'm not accepting a gas vehicle this time. I really hoped it wouldn't come to this.

I took delivery on 6/29. After many excuses from my guide as to the lack of progress on the registration I finally demanded with 2 weeks to expiry to send me the self-registration packet and I'll take care of it. It arrived a few days later and I went to the DMV and registered it. Tax calc was all wrong on the Rivian form, so that's another reason to do it yourself.

I was surprised when DMV told me it had to be registered as a Combination truck since the GVWR was over 8500, which is the limit for passenger category in CT. It's in the same category as a 3/4 ton truck like an F250.

Rivian really needs to either find a competent vendor that can deal with this across all the states or staff up with knowledgeable folks. It certainly is tarnishing the purchase experience.

Purchased our R1T in August, temp plate expires in October, and I just received my plates on Friday.

Rivian was faster than most dealerships and they actually covered the cost of registration and sent the plates with the stickers. Normally when I purchase from a dealer I receive the title complete notice in the mail, and then need to go to the DMV to get plates and stickers. They made it easier by saving a trip to the DMV.

Follow-up to my situation: I got a UPS shipment notification email on 9/14 indicating my next day air package from Rivian was to be delivered on 9/15. Late that night I got a "delivery rescheduled" email because the tracking showed it was still in the "label created" status (which it is still showing today). Last night (9/19) I got a series of emails from UPS for a different tracking number which they delivered this morning -- I now have the paperwork to file things myself. This was never discussed or brought up in the very minimal number of communications I've had with Rivian or my guide.

Guess what UPS just delivered? All my signed papers back, with a note "here you go, take this to your DMV and file it with the proper payment!"
At least you got a note to tell you what it was for, I didn't even get that in my envelope.

So, couple questions for the people who have had to deal with this:
1. Rivian charged a $225 documentation fee in addition to sales tax and Title & Registration fees. Does that get refunded, or is it only the tax & title/reg fees?
2. How long did it take Rivian to refund you that money, and what method did they use to refund it?

If I could get my guide on the phone to talk through this I'd feel a lot better and be much less annoyed but any time I call, regardless of the time of day, it just rolls to voicemail and the greeting is vague so I don't even know if it is his or just some generic group mailbox. And I can't seem to find the "schedule a call" option any more. I used that back when he was initially assigned when I needed to confirm my configuration, but now I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I guess the good news is I'll at least be able to get proper plates, whenever I can spare the time to go to the Treasurer's Office.

Dammit, that's probably what's going to happen to me too.
