How does Rivian address delivery paint chips?

Just took delivery of a beautiful limestone R1S. The other day I noticed two small paint chips (2-3 cm) near the rear liftgate.

Not really a big deal for me, but wanted to know if anyone else had Rivian fix this? Do they just use touch-up paint and try to smooth it out as best as possible? SC is a bit far for me so I don't want to waste time going there, and I'm also concerned that they will mess it up some more.

I’m So Cal (El Segundo center). I had a small scratch on the tailgate of my R1S on delivery. They repainted the entire tailgate. It ended up being a bigger process than I was expecting (the process took three weeks and they forgot to put the R1S badge back on so added back and forth) so something to consider if not a big deal for you.

Congratulations ?. I love Limestone!!

I would just ask for a free touch up pen from Rivian. They could ship that to you. I wouldn't want a complete respray on my brand new truck. Those spots should touch up really well.

If your not comfortable doing the touch ups you could have a reputable detailer or body shop touch them up.

So we had a paint issue on the edge of our hood. We were picking up at the factory last year. Since we were going to have our truck wrapped with PPF they gave us a paint pen and we had our PPF shop do a small paint repair before they wrapped. Since we edge wrapped the PPF it completely covered the trouble spot. Ended up looking fine.

This summer we had a door alignment issue where the front passenger door rubbed the front panel and chipped some paint. Rivian offered to send it to a body shop for paint, but we asked if they could try a paint pen. They did the work at the service center and we were happy with the repair. This was a one day fix versus two weeks at a body shop.

I bought a Rivian paint pen for a chip similar to it in the front and it worked. Nobody notices and I don’t either. Things just don’t bother me at all.

I'd be tempted to get some paint and do it myself. It should be perfect, but....

I had a few paint nibs and imperfections on my R1S. I uploaded a ticket and the service center took it to a body shop while it was in for service. I actually asked my service advisor to loop me in with the paint guy. He said the paint was overall in great shape other than the nibs, and if he repainted any panels the results wouldn't be quite as good as the original. Rivian said they would be happy to have any of the affected panels repainted if I wanted them to, but I chose to keep as-is, and just correct some of the areas with a paint pen and leave the nibs. I plan to use this as a truck and get scratches anyway. Though small, these are unfortunate issues that hopefully Rivian will improve on as production processes continue to be refined.

My liftgate was so badly aligned that it rubbed the paint off in one area down to bare metal. Rivian "fixed" it by using a paint pen (or possibly a sharpie) with the skill of a toddler. Seriously it may look worse now than it did before they painted it.

Rivian is going to eventually (6 m in and still waiting on appointment) take my vehicle to the body shop to fix other problems, and I will have them try again on that one. Hopefully the people at the body shop are more skilled painters than the service center tecs.

thanks everyone for their feedback! it doesn't bother me too much and it doesn't seem like the SCs are doing a good job fixing these things, so I'll ask them for a pen and do it myself.

I looked hard and couldn't find anything else wrong with the car --- which is already above my expectations. Oct 2023 Build - VIN 28XXX. I'm currently getting from full front PPF, stage 1 paint correction, and ceramic coating -- so we'll see if the detailer finds anything I didn't see.
