Just got the notification in app and on the dash that says to replace the 12v Battery. Wondering how long I have that I can still use the truck until it dIes. Anyone have an experience with this?

My mobile service appt is 10 days away. It's a 2022 R1T with 48k miles.

How long do I have after receiving the notification before the battery needs to be replaced?

It varies based on the battery's condition and usage. In some cases, the battery may require replacement within hours of receiving the notification.


How can I prevent the 12 V battery from losing charge?

Keep the vehicle plugged in when not in use. The high voltage battery will support the 12 V system, but the vehicle will not enter sleep mode.

I had mine replaced last week via mobile service too. But I was driving my truck for about two weeks after I received the warning. Range depletes a little faster than usual. If you don’t charge every day, I would suggest you do it for the time being.

This recently happened to me. Rivian wanted to schedule mobile service that was 2 or 3 weeks out, but luckily there is a service center in my city nearby and I opted to bring it there making an appointment 3 days out. I have the Dual Motor. On the end of the 2nd day, when engaging and disengaging the rear motor it was doing so slowly such that you could feel and hear an unpleasant clunk. Someone on this forum noted that such a symptom is a sign of pending complete failure because there isn't enough reliable juice to power such functions.

Thus, for me it was ~ 2.5 days from when I got the notification to when it began impacting vehicle performance.

Also, after it was replaced the vehicle will no longer accept a phone as a starting key. The phone will unlock the vehicle (and lock when I walk away), but no matter what I do (unpairing, pairing, restarting phones, airplane mode on/off, etc) the vehicle will now only start (for driving) via the key card or key fob. Rivian support said the module that recognizes the phone probably got damaged during the battery issue and they will replace it the next time I make an appointment (mobile service for this not available).

I got a new iPhone and could not get it to pair. Got it to strangely pair, could do some things but not others. Fixed it by uninstalling the Rivian app and reinstalling it.
I really appreciate your idea and mentioning this. I did leave that step off my list. I tried it again to be sure, but unfortunately the vehicle will not pair any phone now (as key) (I've tried multiple phones). It gets stuck at this step and if it's not clear in the picture, the Set Up button is "greyed" out and cannot be pressed.

UPDATE: After a few hours I checked and I could then press the Setup button. It then adds it and the phone app and vehicle thinks the phone is added as a key. However, it does not work as a key to start. I still have to use the key card or the FOB to start the vehicle. I think the Rivian phone support was accurate that the module was damaged.

Huh. I got the warning maybe 15 months ago. Rebooted and still going strong.
