How many R2 Launch Editions will they make?

How many of the Launch Editions do you think they will make? Will they make enough for everyone who preordered and then said they were interested in that version?

I made a launch day reservation (not sure what time of day) but I would be mad if I were not able to get one since I have been waiting 2+ years already.

I believe even Rivian doesn't know the answer to that yet. I'm guessing they'll keep making them with 3-4 month lead times until the demand for the LE tapers off. At that point they'll start offering the Premium version with RWD (no LIDAR) while they phase in the LIDAR equipped models, but it's really anyone's guess.

Not announced to press or public. No one knows. Wait and see. All that is known is they project they will produce 25k units, total (including LE) for all of 2026.

They produced roughly 20-25k Launch Edition R1S/R1T back in 2022-2023. Rivian stated they plan to ship in total about 20-25k R2 in 2026. We know initial shipments will be the Launch Edition only and they stated Premium will start shipping late 2026. Doesn't mean Launch Editions will stop being manufactured once the Premium start shipping but gives us a sense of how many they think they will sell. I'd say roughly about 15-20k Launch Editions.

Keep in mind Rivian said current Rivian owners will get priority for the R2. Roughly 130k R1T/R1S have been sold since launch. Of course not all of them will buy an R2 but gives you an idea of how many people are potentially in front of you if you don't own an R1, even if you're a day 1 reservation holder: https://rivian.com/support/article/what-are-the-terms-and-conditions-for-r2-priority-delivery

Well they said they will make about 26000 R2 this year loosely based on their total build forecast and the mix of R1’s, and they are saying the R2 Premium will be available in late 2026, so I think they will probably make around 20k of the LE and then start building a mix of LE and Premium. The LE and Premium are basically very similar in features so starting with LE lets them get the plant rolling with just one version and then start to diversify the builds.
