How prevalent are these issues?

Re the half shaft clanking and Tonneau cover issues that Rivian acknowledges a fix is in work to cure the design defect - was anyone told when the fix will be implemented? I’m a bit jilted from my vibrating half shafts in my Tesla Model S Plaid. Tesla has recognized the issue and claims a fix will arrive…. For more than 1 1/2 years now. Party line today remains identical to the one they sang back in July 2021.

So, if Rivian is emulating Tesla, these fixes may be a long time coming….

I just just traded my Model Y on an R1T, and everything seems to be working fine but I did have a ding and couple flaws in my paint. My hood might need an adjustment. Because it was delivered yesterday, the recall had already been performed. Sadly, there is no yoke.

I have an R1T on order, but while I wait my limited research seems to indicate the following issues occur very frequently at or after delivery. What has your experience been? Mileage?

1. Half shaft clanking when accelerating decelerating from/to a stop.

2. Tonneau cover binding, or broken

3. Suspension recalls

4. Panel gaps/alignment issues, similar to or worse than Tesla (which are pretty material)

5. Drive Unit failure.

1. Yeah a little bit but the noise doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about personally. It's much quieter than ICE noises

2. Yeah my tonneau is loud but it works for now. Not the best system clearly, but it's okay for now

3. No suspension issues whatsoever

4. Few if any panel gaps, no wind noise it's quieter than my '21 Audi S car.

5 I did have a drive unit failure on final inspection. This got my truck delayed a week.

The answer to the question you didn't ask, but need to know, is that I would absolutely put up with all that and more to keep this truck. It's that good. If I had to build a cool truck with unlimited resources it would come out extremely close to the one I have in my garage right now. I mean a truck that can rock crawl and beat just about anything on the road in a drag race within 5 minutes that costs less to drive than a Prius.

Not to mention that's as quiet and luxurious to drive as my Audi. As of right now I've had a few issues, but Rivian has been more than willing to fix it and it's all minor to be part of something this cutting edge. There's nothing else like it, it's a super car, an off-road beast and a refined daily driver all in one vehicle. I don't want to get rid of mine I want to get an R1S for my wife.

I mean, fairly prevalent. It's pretty clear Rivian is struggling to build top tier quality cars and anyone saying otherwise needs to look at the evidence.

Now, they are still really good vehicles but if it's going to be your only vehicle or you really can't stand cosmetic flaws I'd really, really consider if it's the car for you.

I think it's going to take them a couple years to get sorted.

My Y and Plaid have yokes! My Rivian may get one as well! ?

I got my Rivian first week of June IIRC. I took it in for less than 10 minutes today to fix the recall (I live close to a SC) and have had no other issues in my 6k miles. My first week I went out of State (but was nervous) by 1 month I'd been to 4 states from Seattle to Salt Lake City through eastern Oregon. Has reading about other folks issues given me pause? Absolutely but my experience has been completely positive to date.

My R1T was built in July W/9900 serial and was delivered first week in August. My tonneau cover works but doesn't close flush, stays out about 1/2 to 3/4" which is not a functional issue but not correct so I reported it to get on tonneau cover fix wait list. Also the key fob and wrist band do not work and I have an appointment to reprogram in a couple weeks. Had my fastener retorqued today (took about 6 - 7 minutes). other than those issues this is one beast of a truck with a solid feel, no squeaks, rattles or shakes. OTA updates will constantly improve the vehicle with more features and constant bug fixes. When I needed to call Rivian for anything always excellent response and support. I would not be hesitant to purchase as RJ and Rivian will make you smile.....
