Updates don't mean improvement. There hasn't been a meaningful improvement for Gen 1 in years.
Couldn’t disagree more. Google Maps. Camera management. Tire size setting. Infotainment apps. UI updates. That’s just off the top of my head.

Which if those is truly meaningful?

Mapbox has more accurate roads than Google maps does for me, I still can't navigate to my office because the rodsa are broken. I put in corrections with Google 6 months ago, while Open Street Maps has been fixed for two years.

What camera management are you talking about? We've been able to do most of the potato video review for a LONG time.

Tire size setting is largely a cosmetic/UI thing. Not meaningful.

Infotainment apps have been there from the beginning, save for Tidal and the broken Apple Music app.

UI updates are definitely not meaningful.

The only truly meaningful updates I've seen at all are the inclusion of the garage door opener (which should have been there from day one), and the quad climate zones (which also should have been there from day one).

I love my R1T, and I really enjoy the updates, but we are kidding ourselves if we think they are meaningful in any way.

Not sure your point. Future proof for software is one thing but improvements to hardware (more energy dense batteries etc) cannot be retrofitted so the vehicle is not future proof from a hardware perspective nor would I expect it to be

According to Rivian yes they do go out of style. That was their reasoning for not retrofitting tank turn on gen1 quads as.they didn't have fine motor control though they did demo it with the old motors.

That's why I used the term 'largely'. The calibration is really only for the wheel speed sensor to feed the odometer, as most everything else uses GPS/GLONASS. Your vehicle will work/operate just fine without the calibration.

Future proofed except for hardware like motors, batteries and interior/exterior features.
Troublingly I do not think it is even launch-proofed. I am withholding judgement in the great hope that RJ has a card or two up his sleeve, but there is an 800V, 350 mile Traveler with my name on it (and the same future-proofed zonal architecture) unless the R2 surprises with charging speed and range (and a better-than-Orin ADAS hardware). A run-of-the-mill 280-300 mile Blazer with 30-35 minute 10-80% charging curve = dead man walking for Rivian IMO.

It may be possible to use GPS to show speed and calculate the odometer. But GPS is not Available everywhere. If driving in arias that do not work with GPS the speedometer and odometer would be off. I believe most vehicles use wheel rotation calculations to show speed not GPS.

Go back and watch the video that was posted, then watch the ones Mercedes posted on the g-wagon. Rivian's was really sloppy.

It's easy to just spin each side in opposite directions at whatever speed. It's hard to do it in such a way that the vehicle isn't migrating it's position. Mercedes' system is probably as good as it is because of Rivian's original video in 2019 though.

Since GLONASS is operated by the Russian Federation, I respectfully disagree with this statement as well.
Disagree with what? It's a fact - your GNSS devices use both GPS and GLONASS. And probably a few other networks as well.

Are you not aware that almost every GPS chip out there uses GLONASS? Your iPhone, for example, uses GLONASS. Using multiple satellite networks increases the number of satellites your device can lock on to, which increases the accuracy.

It sounds like you think you have a choice ...

Yeah, it's potentially a huge problem, since Russia deliberately tampers with the signal - they are using this as part of their hybrid anti-West strategy.
