I will be traveling extensively over the next year and will store my R1S in my garage for several weeks at a time. What precautions should I take re charging or anything else?

From what I read on this forum; use an L2 charger and leave it plugged in, even if the L2 charger is only on a 120v circuit. That should both keep any battery vampires from draining the vehicle, and in the case of an unheated garage, keep the battery somewhat pre-conditioned.

If you are concerned about having the charger pulling from the grid, you can also use the scheduler to have the vehicle only charge during certainly times of day. That should be enough to keep the batteries charged while in storage.

We have an unheated garage, and I noticed as soon as the temps dropped down into freezing over night, if I did not plug the R1T in, there would be 1-2% drop in storage overnight. I keep it plugged in when parked, and given that we have two EV's plugged into one NEMA 14-50 outlet, I am using the scheduler on both so neither are charging at the same time.

Drop off at my house, will make sure it gets plenty of use so it does not get suffer from neglect. Same with your Porsche, can make sure it gets all the use it deserves. Or, I guess you could just do what Rade recommends...

I just got back from a 3 week trip, and here's what I did:

Got the HV battery down to 50% state of charge, and set the charge limit in the truck for 50%.

Plugged in my portable (level 1) charger into an outlet in my garage and set the charging rate in the truck to 8 amps (you could do this with level 2 charger also).

The truck was ready to go when I got home. I used it to go grocery shopping the day after we got back with no issues, and I drove it to work (40 mile round trip) this morning. I reset the charge limit to 70% last night and the truck charged (on my level 2 charger) with no issues. While I was away, the truck essentially trickle charged off the portable charger. I had my climate control timers off, and didn't look at my app while I was traveling (I had limited cell service anyway). The truck woke right up when I got home, and has been operating just fine since.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I've left mine for a month in the garage and the vampire drain at approximately 1% per day was manageable. If it's in a safe place and you're ok turning off Gear Guard, just make sure it's locked and there aren't seat belts engaged.

Otherwise - plug it in to L1 or L2, set the charge limit to 60 or 70%, and go enjoy.

Keep plugged in (even if on the mobile charger). Set charge limit to 50%. If you can’t keep it plugged, with Gear Guard off you should be seeing 1% drop. Verify with a test beforehand to see if yours is consistent with that, so you can determine what initial SOC needs to be. To reduce consumption even further there’s camp mode with everything off or shipping mode in vehicle settings menu. And while you are away, remember each remote check-in will wake vehicle and consume energy from the 12V, which will also consume energy from the HV pack; to replenish the 12V.

I left my Tesla for 3-week periods multiple times a year, and now do the same with my R1S. I keep the charge set to 70% as that's my daily charge limit. I use the mobile charger plugged into 120V and let it maintain at that level - never had any problems. - My 2 cents worth :)

Gone for 3 to 4 months at a time over the last 3 years. I kept the truck plugged at 70% range. Set it to charge for one hour or so everyday. Never had problems. I come back, the truck is ready to roll.

Trying to understand why you limit the charging/recharge to 50%?
I normally recharge at 20% and set the upper charge limit to 80%.
I have the charging times set to 9:00PM to 6:00AM weekdays and 24 hours per day Saturdays/Sundays (Cheapest off-peak rates)
Why not leave the R1S plugged into the RIvian Wall Charger for storage?
Thanks in advance for your insights!

if in a garage, plug your travel charger into a 110v outlet and set the charge level to 50%. L1 charging is plenty for this as a 110v outlet will give you a little more than 1 kWh per hour. We have 2 EVs in our house and this is what we do when one won't be driven for a while.

Then about 2-3 days before your return, go into the App and change the charge level up to your typical charge (I use 80%). By the time you get home, you'll have a full charge.

It's also a good idea if its been sitting for more than a couple of weeks other check the tire pressure to make sure those are all equal.
