I was listening to an IID (Imperial Irrigation District) public meeting today, one of the agenda items was to sale of property to Hell’s Kitchen Geothermal by the Salten Sea in the Coachella Valley. One of the byproducts of the process is pulling minerals from the brine, lithium is one of those and they think that sometime in the next 10 years that area may be the largest supplier of lithium in the world.
Yes I have heard about this also. Its a great potential source for lithium and hopefully viable techniques get developed and ramped up quickly.

Back to the hummer 'efficiency', it looks like it will use about 650wh per mile; and people are complaining about the Rivian's 440wh per mile!

Huh? Pulling Lithium from Brine has always been the main method to harvest Lithium. I must of missed something here.

Not how they are pulling it but that they are moving forward with land transfers to start tapping into what may be the largest deposits in the world here in Southern California.

I agree with the fact that batteries have higher emissions than an ICE engine to produce. But what usually gets left out of all of the analysis is the mining and drilling and construction of fossil fuel plants. The FF industry likes to tout the emissions with solar and wind materials but fail to mention that the solar and wind fuel is emission free while coal, gas, and oil have continuous emissions beyond just the combustion of the fuel.
So just to be clear, I'm absolutely agreed that the "lifecycle emissions of the battery" talking point is FF industry FUD and generally a straw man to discourage adoption of EVs and renewables. But it is true that there has to be a turning point where the diminishing returns of ever-larger packs and ever-lower efficiency can make an EV a worse choice than an ICE over the expected lifetime of the vehicle.

To date, essentially all EVs have been so much better than any competing ICE in their segment that it's a moot point after a couple years, especially as the grid becomes greener. But the Hummer is doing its damndest to upend that.

Not to say electrification isn't good; just that bloated landyachts are still bloated landyachts, battery powered or no. An EV Hummer may be a slightly greener choice than the exact same vehicle powered by an ICE powertrain, but it's still a Hummer, and you shouldn't have any illusions that you're buying something good for the planet.

Yep, that's the basic idea. The good news with batteries is the second time around (and third, etc. after being recycled) should require much less overall energy.

Does feel a bit like the most 'Murican version of an EV and sort of the antithesis of what they're "supposed" to be.

Saw one in Ohio yesterday, getting off I-90, heading to an Electrify America station. Have yet to see an R1T yet, for what is worth.

I like the looks of the Hummers, don't love the interior, and absolutely do not like the price.

I wouldn’t expect Rivians Max Pack to be much different, 180kw vs 200kw.
It would be though right, Rivian is a 400v pack and Hummer is 800v pack.
