I cannot understand Rivian navigation.

I live in northern Virginia, very close to DC. It takes me 20 minutes to drive to DC on I-66, as it's a straight shot. However, if I use the Rivian navigation, it takes 45 minutes because the system avoids all tolls. I never selected the option to avoid tolls. Can someone help me?

I don't know if it's because I'm checking at 8:46 AM, but it is definitely trying to avoid 66 right now.

I'm not sure of the underlying algorithm, but I'm sure it's had me go to 66 before. Perhaps something with how it's handling the HOV restrictions? If I know the GW Parkway is not the way to go (it never is), then I just put in the destination and start going the way I want. Once I'm on 66, it adjusts. Then again, I'll admit I do not take the R1S into DC unless I have no choice. Otherwise, I've found the nav to be very reliable in this area, compared to some of the horror stories others have here. My advice is to look at the entire route before committing, but that's the same for any GPS that doesn't know where the lost Marylanders congregate.

@Tango45, @rrdaniel75, I'd say it's a feature, not a bug. Anyone who's lived here for any amount of time should know to avoid I-66 at all costs, and apparently the Rivian nav knows that as well...

Kidding aside, I've had issues w/ Google maps keeping me off 66 inside the Beltway thinking it was "toll only", when it was off hours. So...even the main mapping app goofs up now & then.

I know on our tesla, it always routes us around 66 until I turn on "HOV" as it thinks it's a HOV only area.

For our Rivian, I just make sure and not have the avoid tolls part turned on. Worked great last night going to MJ down at the National Theater.

How do you select the NAV to avoid tolls? This is something that bugs me all the time it wants to take me on tolls. I've looked everywhere ( I thought ) and couldn't find the AVOID TOLLS button to click.

Um, yeah. What the hell? How do you get to those settings? I literally have never seen that screen or those options before in 8,000 miles of driving this truck.

You have to plan a trip in the vehicle, and before accepting it you get a couple buttons. The one to get into this menu is down there next to the one that starts the trip.

Page 195 in the owner's guide (at least R1S). I'm too lazy to go to the garage right now.

Edit: If you can't find the button, I can make the arduous trek to the car and take a pic of the screen.

I have been having the exact same problem. It makes the navigation useless. Even after I get on 66 it tries to route me as if I am not on the road. Argh.

You conspicuously didn't mention whether you have "Avoid tolls" turned on. If you do, then the navigation is doing EXACTLY what you told it to do ...

I don't. And in fact, I regularly take roads with tolls.
