Oh, please. Anyone that would intentionally damage the trails are simply going to floor it anyway whoever they're in the mood. A greatly reduced turning radius at the expense of tire slippage would be very handy in many spots, and their stated concerns about controlling the maneuvers would be well addressed by limiting how much that radius could be reduced.
One of my decisions for selecting the R1T, was the tank turn feature. I have a small area to turn around before backing into my garage. No problem in the Spring, Summer or Fall. In the winter when there is snow and ice, I can’t turn around. I would use the tank turn only in the Winter or in the mud.

I think Rivian didn’t have ducks in a row when they were advertising the R1T!!

The TT has its merit, I would do the same as you, and like it. As well I would show off doing it, so my other post is hypocrisy of a sort. But the tire cost and the damage of spinning could be dangerous. Some kids get older not wiser.

Nerfed due to possible vehicle damage/warranty claims vs environmental concerns...

I mean how "Green" can Rivian be when they have produced 75,000+ vehicles that are wasting up to 2kWh of electricity per day due to Vampire Drain while doing absolutely no work?
The average home in the US consumes 26kWh/day so Rivian is burning through 5,700 homes worth of electricity per day unnecessarily. Now multiply that daily figure by 365 to get a truly astounding number! Not Green at all.... ?

…. Can we be responsible for our actions?
All observations of frivolous lawsuits and people looking for deep pockets anytime they stub their toe points to no, no we cannot….

You are assuming everyone does this and everyone does it all day. Your math is as wrong as wasting power. The limited application of the tank spin is parking and maneuvering the vehicle. While I agree that street racing and burning rubber just to hear it squeal is stupid, we still need to have tires available for the people that do not do stupid things.

I was referring to vampire/parasitic drain of approx 2kWh/day per vehicle x 75,000 vehicles produced.

I'll edit my post to include "vampire drain" as I see how it can be a bit ambiguous.

How about implementing it (tank turn) for, say, 2 seconds at a time? Might help get out of a jam. And/or a front/rear "dig"?

Off-roaders with the fancy Atlas transfer cases are doing "digs" all over the place, all the time.

Oh - and I'll take Tread Lightly more seriously when they admit (which they won't) that a single SxS WITHOUT open diffs (most of them have locked rear hubs) tear up the trails far more than 10 Jeeps with open differentials around *every* corner they take.

I know every single SxS owner is going to get their panties ruffled, so...

Armor on.....

I've definitely wondered if the controls would notice if you swapped two of the motor leads for the motors on just one side of the vehicle.

Never gonna happen. Tank turn rips up and disturb the ground. It is the antithesis of the one universal rule of off-roading—tread lightly. It’s also not aligned with brand values. Let it go.

Would much rather have lockers, virtual lockers, or much improved traction management and power delivery at low speeds… than a useless parlor trick.

Agree with virtual (aka "dumb") lockers - with instant stop when you take your foot off the go-pedal. Dumb, but with steering control.
