Anyone has the intention of installing the Rooftop tent iKamper 3.0 on the R1T bed? I see it being a lenght issues considering the fact that the bed of the R1T is relatively short. Perhaps something like the Yakima OverHaul HD in the near future? Any ideas?

The Skycamp Mini (and other compact tents like the X-Cover Mini, Roofnest Condor, CVT Mt Washington Small) will fit perfectly.

The full-sized Skycamp would not fit over the bed without a huge cantilevered overhang (ugly and likely not a safe mounting solution). As you suggest it would need some kind of cab-height crossbar adapter (like the OverHaul) to work, which isn't currently available. Some folks have custom built them but I'm not aware of any vendors that sell them.

At that point I think you're probably better off with the R1S, anyway.

I love the Skycamp 3.0 Mini. It would be my #1 choice if shopping for a hard shell RTT. It’s not cheap at $3700 but you usually get what you pay for.

I love the idea of the Sky camp mini but my height 6'4" seems to be an issue from my research. Not sure what other hardtop options I have for the small bed.

It's definitely possible. I have a iKamper 1.0 (kickstarter) which has the same roof footprint as the 3.0.

Basically 3 options:

Worst: Stock bedrails.
Like others have mentioned, this creates a cantilever over the rear of the truck that is pretty sketch. I've seen some people create a "L" bracket for the trailer hitch that rises up under the tent platform to stabilize this cantilever, but nothing retail. It's fairly stable on the road, but there's a significant overhang. I fashioned some 2x4s to use as stabilizers under the tent platform when the tailgate is down and load is inside the tent. Super hacky, and not recommended.

Perfectly Acceptable: Roof Rack
This works just fine. You have a slight front and rear overhang, but it's completely stable on the highway and when using the tent. IMO, this is the only good option for the iKamper 3.0 using stock Rivian crossbars. Yes, it sucks for aero, but you'll have to deal with sucky aero for any of the full sized RTT options.

Best Option (IMO): 23" Bed Rack
I use the 23" Xtrustion Overland Rack. This provided bed rails that match the stock roof crossbars height to the tent clears your LTE shark fin antenna. This allows a couple mounting options. You can either slide the tent forward to span across both bed rails and the rear roof crossbar, or you can slide the tent towards the rear and have room to use the roof crossbars separately.

Attaching pics of all 3 options.

Hi Scott,

Have you checked out the Air Cruiser? It would be great for your height, as it's the tallest RTT on the market, it also fits the Rivian truck bed with room to spare. It's not a hard top but the set-up is faster as there are zero poles to insert for canopies or any other tedious tasks, you plug it into your Rivian and it automatically sets up. We've had Rivian customers who have sold their hard tops for the Air Cruiser after seeing them at meets. We've had a huge take-up from the community as it's the perfect fit. Check out the site https://air-cruiser.cinchpopuptents.com/?utm_campaign=rivian

I've included a little comparison with the Ikamper so that you can see the clear advantages. I hope you don't mind Beau, I'm happy to take it down if you do :)

Nice comparison!

There are quite a few tents that fit the stock bed rack nicely. The benefit of the iKamper (non-mini) is that you can fit a family of 4 in it with the king-size mattress footprint. That's at least why I spent time shoe-horning it onto the truck. heh.

I typically sleep solo in my Skycamp Mini, but my 6'-4" frame has plenty of room - even with pillows, gear, etc..... with two people, it may be a bit tighter. YMMV.
