I recently purchased a used 26k mile 2023 R1S with three brand new Kumho Crugen HP71 275/50 R22 111H tires and one what I assume to be original OEM Pirelli Scorpion tire. No matter what, I need to replace the worn out Pirelli.
Would someone who knows more about tires than me let me know whether I should replace all four tires or try to find someone who will replace just the Pirelli with a matching Kumho? I would hate to discard three brand new tires but I don’t know the significance of a load rated 111 tire vs a 115 Michelin or 116 Pirelli. All options can support the weight of an R1S with passengers but maybe a safety margin is important.

111 is way too low of a load rating. 113 is about the absolute minimum that would be acceptable, and it's not enough to match what's required in FMVSS because of the vehicle class. 115 is what shipped on some early R1 vehicles, and that still doesn't match FMVSS because of a specific rule about reducing the rating by dividing it by 1.10. 116 is the minimum because of that rule.

Replace all 4. Whoever put those tires on didn't know what they were doing to allow something with that low of a load rating on your Rivian. You are at greater risk of a blowout as the tires will heat up excessively under a load they aren't designed for.

I agree, these are 115s, I’ve put 700 miles on them on my R1S, they are much cheaper than the Perrilli tires and so far are just as efficient and seem quieter. I’m very happy with them. I paid 1340 out the door at America’s Tire, more than 1000 less than the Perrilli tires were.

I have 13,500 miles on the older version of the Michelins and they are fantastic.

The only issue with buying them at Costco, those free rotations get costly once you go in the warehouse and start shopping.
Haha, I’ve never heard a more true statement!

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem

In addition to what others have said (yes - replace all 4, the load rating is way too low) - I would have the vehicle checked out.

Cheaping out and buying 3 of 4 tires by the previous owner, where those 3 are way under-spec'd, is an enormous red flag for me, one I would reserve for a 5th owner clapped-out Altima, not an R1.

111 load index is 2400lb each or 9600lb total. Enough to drive around but not meet the gcvwr. I'm surprised they go to 51 psi. I'd suggest keeping them there.

Kumho is not my favorite tire... At all.

Rear GAWR is more important to abide, 4960, requiring a (BEEP BOOP BEEP) 116 load index thanks to that often ignored 10% rule. I once thought 113 was the minimum, and I'm currently running 115s no problem, but my next tires will be 116.

Yes but curb weight is 7200lb on the r1t and about 6900 on the r1s. That will be 3600-3800 driving it around empty per axle. Far from the 4800 per axle the tires can support. He's in no danger unless he loads it up, tows or underinflates the tires. Makes the vehicle a bit worthless for it's intended use though as you point out.

I have a camping trailer that came with C tires from the factory and could barely carry curb weight. Of course it doesn't carry curb weight when going on a trip with water, propane, batteries and our stuff. Underinflate even 10% and it blew out on the freeway. I ended up buying 15" wheels up from 14" so I could find D rated 65 psi tires.
