I had a call with Rivian insurance today and it went similar to above- very professional and a good quote to boot. A couple of other interesting tidbits:

The insurance agent I spoke with sits next to guides in Normal and is actually a Rivian employee. (The quote came on Nationwide letterhead with the agent's info...)

..said he saw R1S's on the line today!

...was able to see if I already had a VIN assigned (sadly, no...)

...if you have a replacement incident they walk your file over to the guides and they are able to 'skip the line' for a new Rivian. They really, really want to keep you in a Rivian rather than have you take your settlement $$$ to another brand

Also, very little pressure or pitch- here's what we can do but no problem if you use us or not. My current provider also had no problem using Rivian's coverage as primary for my umbrella. They didn't even have Rivian in their pull down menu yet...
I had a call with Rivian insurance today. Same experience as you pretty much. They had some specific perks with Rivian like only using OEM parks but the big one to me is how you get to skip the line in the event of a total loss. My last EV was totaled and the idea of having to wait 1+ years if bad luck struck again has been in the back of my mind. However, how much is that really worth? The quote from Rivian was not that great compared to USAA, $100 more for 6 months. It was even worse when putting my other car on it at $200 more.

Another bummer for me is they would not offer me homeowners insurance as they thought I was in a high fire risk area (I disagree, and so do the maps I looked up). So I'm missing out on that bundle. Yes, I'm in California... sigh...

I'm in the same boat with you in regards to not being able to get homeowners insurance quoted through Nationwide due to the area I live in which is considered by some insurance companies as a high fire hazard area.

I've had two calls with Kim from Rivian Insurance and she's been great. Very professional, and as others have said, not pushy at all trying to sell me anything. In fact the initial quote I received from her matched my existing coverage and I noticed some additional options that she didn't price and she specifically mentioned that she didn't want to try and upsell me anything without talking through it first. In general the Rivian insurance option is more expensive then my current insurance provider, especially because of not being able to bundle everything together. That being said, I may just have my R1T on it's own policy with Rivian/Nationwide Insurance. The OEM option for repairs can only be added when the vehicle is new. The New Car Replacement Option ads an extra 10% on top of what you paid for the vehicle for replacement value and can only be on the policy for 3 years and then it starts reducing the coverage afterwards up to year 5 and then it's removed from the policy.

The primary policy differences she highlighted are: Off-Road damage is covered which must traditional carriers exclude (I won't be doing much off-roading, honestly), all accessories are covered under the policy, and the Highway Assist Renewal Reward (subject to availability, so far this isn't available in California due to current laws/legislation, which she said they are working on).

So that being said, I'm still inclined to go with the Rivian Insurance policy even though it's more expensive since this is such a specialized vehicle that I want to make sure I have no issues if it ever needs major repairs from an accident.

Did they mention options through Cincinnati Financial? I was told they are Rivian's provider offering the comprehensive products...

I was told they can quote both but only give you the better of the two. In my case, she said Nationwide was better but didn’t provide specifics.

Not specifically. My policy quote was from Nationwide.

Did some more comparison shopping today... I really want to go with Rivian Insurance option but the price difference might be too high.

Covering an R1T and a 2011 Mazda CX9. Yes insurance is high in CA.

Rivian Insurance (Nationwide)
$1,589.31 6/mo
$1000/$1000 comp/collision deductible
250k/500k liability

GEICO
$1,136.00 6/mo
$100/$500 comp/collision deductible
300k/500k liability

So GEICO saves me about $75 mo/ $900 yr with lower deductibles. Rivian perks are nice, but maybe not that nice.

Insurance call today was very encouraging. Frankly it’s a no brainer to go with theirs. Exceptionally competitive.

This varies. My rate was significantly better with my provider than with Rivian. Others have had the same experience as me, while others have the same as you.

And when it is my turn, I will fall right in the middle of your 2 groups. I already use Cincinnati lol.

They didn’t mention any other options.
