Will they be offering per-mile insurance as an option, similar to companies like Metromile?

Why do I want insurance with Rivian when I can have my Allstate bundled with my other cars, umbrella and home? Gonna be way hard to compete with.

Rivian says they can do the same.

When the time comes, I'll let them take a swing at it.

I emailed Rivian Insurance in April, as I was curious about bundling as you are.

"Thank you for your interest in Rivian Insurance!

Rivian Insurance is currently licensed to sell in 40 states. Our goal is to expand to all states and the District of Columbia except Alaska and Louisiana by launch or shortly thereafter. In addition to covering your Rivian, we can bundle your home/renters, other autos, umbrella, and recreational policies. There will be several options on discounts available too.

Rivian Insurance is built into our online ordering process so you can get a quote in minutes when you complete your vehicle purchase.

Rivian Insurance Advisors will be available to help you protect your Rivian with insurance advice or building quotes in the near future as well.

Stay Adventurous!"

Have a call with a Rivian Insurance Advisor on Monday.

I have some questions on insuring other vehicles, how the Driver+ discounts will work, if it's possible for other insurance providers to have access to Driver+ data to also possibly lower rates with them, etc.

Figured I would ask this group if there were any additional Rivian Insurance related questions that anyone wanted answered.

What are the states it’s currently offered (and not offered) in?!?!?
I know this doesn’t actually matter to you. You obviously will be covered if you’re having the conversation. Where do you live?

Already spoke with them. Looks like they are brokers employed by Rivian, and the insurance is underwritten by Nationwide and another one (Cincinnati something). He asked for my current policies so he can provide a quote for me. He said when I get my Rivian I can just add it to the policy. I'll wait for the quote, but not sure I'm willing to move everything over right now, if at all. Happy with State Farm coverage for everything, but will go with Rivian when I get my truck.

Ken,

For what it's worth, I just had a call with one of Rivian's Insurance Pros. Again, I am an independent insurance agent, and am more than willing to have Nationwide write all of my insurance, if it ultimately makes sense to do so. With Rivian's Nationwide program, other cars are not a problem, as they were able to bundle three of my other cars with the R1T, along with Homeowners and Umbrella policies. I hadn't mentioned to them previously that I have, and want to keep Earthquake insurance, but we'll talk about that next week on a follow-up.

When discussing some of the differences over other carriers, I understand Rivian's program doesn't require a separate entry and premium for Road-Side assistance. It is included with the Rivian and it was stated that as long as you weren't doing something like "racing or something wrong", they'll send in the help. I haven't yet gone into what those specifics are, but simple off-roading wasn't deemed to be off-limits for gaining help. I plan to follow-up on that, but you may want to do the same. I also want to clarify if separate Road-Side assistance is included for my other vehicles, but I may just keep AAA for them anyway.

Their coverage also comes standard with OEM replacement parts and glass in the event of a loss. From a glass standpoint, that is HUGE! When it comes to the roof panel, and having original acoustic glass for replacing any of the windows, this is really big for me. OEM glass and parts are generally something extra with other insurers, and may be limited to upper-end packages that include extra $$$ to get several whistles and sirens (like accident forgiveness, key-fob replacement, etc). Also, for a glass-only loss, coverage comes with a the deductible waived. That's a fairly inexpensive option elsewhere, but it's nice to have it built in for when a windows gets broken.

It's also great to know that if you bundle your Home and Auto, should you have an event like hail, fire, storm, etc., that damages your vehicle(s) and home, you will only pay one deductible instead of one for each vehicle and your home. I didn't ask, but I will to clarify if the higher deductible is the one you will pay.

As to the telemetrics being available to other carriers, I plan to follow-up on that myself, because most carriers will likely use a phone app, either for a set period of time or permanently, to determine if a discount is in order. With Rivian and Nationwide, I was told you can opt out. I don't know if opting out means of only opting out of participation for insurance monitoring, or also Rivian's performance monitoring that might, amongst other things, potentially lead to unleashing more range, if warranted. I'm assuming Rivian will not allow opting out of all of that, as it will be a critical piece of monitoring the overall health of our Rivians and limiting warranty repairs by detecting issues early.

I look forward to hearing what you find on Monday. I have my follow-up scheduled for late Tuesday and will report back afterwards.

Regarding the States in which coverage is available, I thought I saw in one of Rivian's pieces that Nationwide will be writing the coverage in 40 States and Cincinnati will write it in most of the remaining States(?). Not sure which will write here or there and/or if any States are off-limits as of now. A good question to ask.
