Awesome. I currently have a flat-fee and then pay by mile which seems to be the fairest policy for me - work from home, and sometimes long road trips. How will they handle high mileage vs. medium vs. low mileage premiums? Is there any sort of pay by mile option? If they just do standard, what happens if you have a low mileage plan and go over? That may be obvious to others but I have been using Metromile since they came out and forgot how other carriers work...

Have a call with a Rivian Insurance Advisor on Monday.

I have some questions on insuring other vehicles, how the Driver+ discounts will work, if it's possible for other insurance providers to have access to Driver+ data to also possibly lower rates with them, etc.

Figured I would ask this group if there were any additional Rivian Insurance related questions that anyone wanted answered.

My only problem is a family friend from our church is my State Farm agent. Might be really awkward if I take 6 policies away..

Get a quote and see how they compare. If your S.F. agent can update to find something better for a bundle with the Rivian, they will. If they can't, they'll understand. You're the client, and it's your money and your decision.

I've had friends walk because of a $90 difference per year. $90 is $90. I've never fussed over anyone leaving for money. If that's what's important, and I can't do better, so be it. I get that. The friendship's worth way more than that.

I happen to love my agent (he's me) but for the right coverages, at the right price, I'll kick my own butt to the curb. Wouldn't be the first time..... https://tenor.com/view/cat-kick-move-gif-14431990

Ask about young drivers. Because I have a 21 and 23 year old I pay an extra 1000 every 6 months. And none of my vehicles now are rare, high performance, $75,000 with no 3rd party parts.
My agent said I could make them get their own policies. But if they had an accident in my truck it would not be covered.
FYI
they emailed me that they cover 48 states now, up from 40.Missouri was covered.

So just a quick update, I asked some of the questions from here and mine as well. I’ll give a quick overview:

They don’t have the percentage discount rate worked out. I asked if you could opt out of the monitoring aspect and it sounds like you could. I also asked what states they won’t be available in and it sounds like Alaska and Louisiana. Like the other poster mentioned they are under written by Nationwide and Cincinnati. They can quote, home, auto and umbrella as well. Probably some other ones too

Just waiting for a quote now

If either of your kids are away at school for the school year, you might ask if that will allow them to be discounted. If they are away, that status will likely depend on how far it is to their school. While it may be small, some insurers provide "Good Student" and "Driver's Education" discounts. Always worth asking about.

Emancipation is another, if not more problematic option. And, yes, I am kidding.... (??)

Had my call today as well and pretty much have the same update as Canthoney gave.

They did say the discount will not be automatic at the beginning and takes some time to collect data before it pushes the discount through.

Roadside assistance is for the Rivian only and AAA (or similar would be recommended for other cars you put on the policy).

Insurance does cover off road incidents which many "normal" insurance agencies would not cover.

There are no pay-per-mile options.

For those that choose to roll their home and car into the same policy it would be one deductible for everything if there was an event that damaged your home and truck at the same time (earthquake, storms, fire, etc.).

Non-Rivian vehicles could qualify for a discount by allowing monitoring of driving by a phone app and/or onboard device (for Nationwide only...Cincinnati does not offer).

Just got an email following offering to setup a call for some questions I had when the insurance was initially announced. Which I think is jeat because I do *not* have a guide. Not sure if @Canthoney does, but it seems like the others who has talked with insurance have a guide assigned to them.

In any case, seems like things are opening up, and not just for those with guides. ?

Just to clarify, does this mean I could keep my car deductible at $500 and the house at $1000, and still have "one deductible" apply for an event that damaged both?

Good question...I do not know. My ASSumption would be that it's either one deductible for all or that the higher of the two prevail.

I can ask the next time I speak with them.

Thanks, I hope it's the latter - that seems fair to me.

I'll be curious to see how their packages compare to the per-mile options. My current auto insurance with Metromile is anywhere from 35 - 60% cheaper than the cheapest traditional policy depending on how much I drive in any given month (which is not a lot, especially since the pandemic).

Agree. Pay by mile makes way more sense to me. Playing the actuarial game seems a little more cut and dry. I also pay way less as I don’t have a 9 to 5 commute.

Hopefully I can still with Metromile if it still proves to be a value add.

Yeah, I really like it and it really, at least for me,

Well, frowny face to that.

I'll be on with them tomorrow and will confirm if the higher of the two takes precedence, as remembered from my first call.
