I went out to my R1T today and everything appeared to be locked and fine. I set my backpack on the tonneau cover so that I could open the doors. I noticed that my phone did not unlock the doors, but that is nothing too surprising. I normally have to look like a fool standing there for several seconds before the doors unlock. What shocked me was that I hit my gear tunnel button and the door opened!!!!! What the....? So I proceeded to check the frunk...yep that opened too. The doors are still locked, so I decided to film it. I went back into my office, made sure I had no key fob, card, or Bluetooth turned on and went back out to the same results.

While this may have been a glitch, this is an unacceptable one! I will be sending this to Rivian for review.

A couple of weeks ago I went to put work bag in gear tunnel leaving work. The gear tunnel unlocked I put bag in and only 5 seconds later did the doors unlocked. It was odd. Haven't had before or since.

However, I'm very lax about locking cars. This is the first car I've ever locked because it does it itself.

Do a reset and see if you can reproduce it. I've seen others report this behavior. If you don't have any of your keys within range, this feels like a glitch. If you have keys within range, then it makes sense why they would allow you to load/unload without unlocking.

If your phone or key is close in proximity to those closures, it's supposed to let you in without unlocking the vehicle.

Agree with @Dark-Fx , I think more likely an error in unlocking doors, than the gear tunnel being available without a key.

I have do not unlock at home set.

If I got out with my phone I can still open the gear tunnel and tail gate.

But if my phone is not near I cannot.

Also occasionally (1 in 5 tries) the alarm goes off when I open the gear tunnel...

I’ve had the same behavior with the phone in proximity, noticed it a few months ago. I’m not sure BT makes the difference. I came back to test it without fob or phone and everything remained locked.

This will prove your phone had unlocked frunk and gear tunnel, your handles didn’t present as they should have. Great idea

Should have tried the door handles to see if they were unlocked.

The other day my rear interior lights were stuck on. Not sure how but cycling the switch on off fixed it.

I noticed this about 2 months ago. I thought it was a glitch, but now its a convenient feature. If your phone or fob is nowhere near the car, everything remains locked. A compartment will unlock if the phone/fob is near it. If your phone/fob is near the frunk, it will only open the frunk. Leave your phone/fob near the frunk and try opening the gear tunnel or tailgate. You can't! It only works if it is in very close proximity to the control for that compartment. Put your phone near a gear tunnel and you can only open that side. Can't open the other side, tailgate, or tonneau either. Pretty cool feature, in my opinion.
