I was wondering if I could lay a flat 2 x 4 x 8' in the back of this vehicle.... The answer is yes.... with a couple of inches to spare. But only on the diagonal.

Nice! I'm hoping I can get a 4x8 sheet of plywood in if I prop it up to clear the arm rests (OK if tailgate is open). Has anyone here done that?

If you could drive with it.... my understanding is that if the tailgate is open you are limited to 35 MPH

Someone (ahem.... not suggesting i would do such a thin ;-) needs to hack that!

yes - no good way to secure the hatch when you do. Also you’re not limited to 35 mph

Love it! Thanks for confirming. I've only had my R1S for a week. I see many trips to the lumber yard in my future.

Not a big deal if it stays open for a while

You underestimate bouncing force (I could care less about it being open) it’s the lack of anyway to prevent movement easily - If was purely hydraulic it would be one thing; but having the powered actuators hold the hatch at a specific angle over rough city streets gives me concern.
