Not sure where you're sourcing from. I always found going from McMaster to BoltDepot saved us almost 70%That's definitely the goal. It would certainly be easier and cheaper to only come out in one direction, but that's just not what I want personally. We're working on sourcing all the hardware and bits to bring the price down. It's crazy how much things like nuts and bolts can add up. I realized the nuts I had picked out were like $1.50 each and there are a million of them...
YMMV, especially if they're verily specialized bits of hardware. My suggestion is to standardize as much as possible, but given how far you are in development, you've probably gotten all of that figured out
