Is anyone else frustrated with Alexa?

After using apps on a regular basis like Chat GTP voice and even Google does anyone else find Alexa extremely lacking and frustrating. I may ask it a simple question two or three times give up grab my phone and just ask Google or Chat. It seems a little like going from a mobile phone back to a pager . Chat GTP active voice as standard in the Rivian would be awesome .

ChatGPT in our vehicles would cause me to turn off any data connections the vehicle has. End of story.

Keep that LLM "AI" bull as far away as possible.

(Yeah, I'm aware that both Google and Amazon have LLM "AI"s, and guess what? I never use them or the voice assistants either).

The sooner you realize that ChatGPT and their ilk are just smashing words together in a statistically-likely manner and that they don't actually know anything, the better your life will be.

Totally agree, using Alexa after ChatGPT feels like going from a smartphone back to a pager. Imagine how smooth it would be if Rivian had ChatGPT voice built in by default that’d be next level.

Hard to be frustrated when I don’t ever use it.

So it can give you wrong answers, send you down wrong path, so you can go online and yell at Rivian to “do better”?

Alexa is infuriatingly useless: either it will try to navigate me to some place 2000+ miles away or it will tell me the full address of point of interest, without mentioning the city - do they expect me to know the address of all Costcos or Home Depots??
I really hope after they integrated Google Maps, they'll integrate the Google Assistant as well - it is somewhat better than Alexa.

Alexa was originally designed to help you buy more stuff. For that it works well. Any other uses, you’re being optimistic. No reason to have it on unless you get that lonely.

I use Alexa for a few things in the Rivian, seems to work well for me.

I agree that its capability is sub par. I recently tried Google assistant in a few Volvos and the capability is much better. It not only recognizes the command much more accurately, it then has a much higher success rate of executing said command. Most of the time Alexa in our Rivian claims to not know about “spote-ah-fi”. I will say that Alexa has a pretty good track record of calling people in my address book, but that’s about all I can reliably use it for.

I've never used Alexa once in my R1T, forgot it was even there until your thread popped up. I use "hey Siri" to interact with my phone daily, make calls, send texts, read texts, etc...

AI is just a tool, same as a hammer, screwdriver or chainsaw. Know how to use, know it's limitations, use it within the limits of it's capabilities. Like using a screwdriver as a chisel, or a chainsaw to cut metal, it's your own fault when it fails or worse, and it's not the tool's fault. And like any tool, recognize that the manufacturer or software developer has a product to sell you and may exagerate its capabilities. Caveat Emptor.

I tried asking Alexa for navigation to the VA Medical Center in Phila. 3 times today. She failed each and every time.
