Is this the known CV halfshat issue?

This is the front driver side. Suddenly had Very loud grinding. We were just starting our mini vacation and had to turn around and head home and get a different vehicle. The grinding went away on the way home. I assume it “self clearanced” but not sure how safe it is to drive. Is this [sadly] “normal”?

That there is fully shat.

I'd think something is coming apart to get to a point where those two things could run together. Check to make sure those bolts in the hub are tight, all four of them.
