Anyone know if Rivian will be providing or offering a J1772/CCS to NACS adapter? When I first bought my R1 I also got the Rivian wall charger. I would like to not have to get another wall charger for my pending R2.

As soon as I have a date on our R2 delivery I'll be ordering one of the A2Z J1772 to NACS adapters - it's $50 and their products are top-notch.

Thanks! I’m not electrically inclined. Do you know of anyone that makes a combined J1772 and CCS to MACS adapter. Or is that not possible? Do I just have to have two adapters?

Rivian gave me one when I picked up my 26 r1t and I believe they're for sale in the gear shop.

A2Z also makes a full L3 J1772/CCS --> NACS adapter for $131. I have both the Rivian NACS --> CCS and the A2Z version and I really prefer using the A2Z model.

The biggest "hassle" I'm anticipating charging at home is that I'll still have our R1S and will likely buy an J1772 extension cable to be able to charge the R2 outside our garage (we can only fit one car in the garage) OR swap cars each time I want to charge the other. True first-world problems!

Haha! Yes true first world problems. Thank you for the info! I saw that one as well but it wasn’t clear to me you could use the J1772 plug as well. Appreciate the help!

The first part about J1772/CCS1 combo adapter is not true. It's either one or the other. The link takes you to the CCS1 to NACS, not J1772 to NACS.

Unfortunately I have never seen or even heard of single adapter that can do both. It may exist, just not this one linked.

I have a Tesla and a Rivian and I use the Rivian NEMA14-50 240V plug portable charger from Rivian to charge both the Tesla and the Rivian since my Tesla came with J1772 to NACS adapter. I also have a portable charger from Tesla and another brand.

Practically, it's not going to happen. You're going to always need two adapters.

Technically it's possible, but it would require active components like DC contactors and a logic circuit built into the adapter. And it would need to be powered independently.

Existing adapters are just wires embedded in plastic, yet they still cost hundreds of dollars. Try adding active electronics and a separate power source and not only do they get much bigger but they get much more expensive. I think $1000 would not be an unreasonable guess.

I would rather have two much cheaper adapters which have no moving parts and no expensive electronics in them.

I was talking to the folks at my Rivian shop by me. Like many I have the Rivian wall charger at home. They said that there may be a retrofit cable coming out to convert to a NACS cable for the home charger. That’s the option I’ll be going with if it does become available.

That would be nice, having an official retrofit cable. I wouldn't count on that coming soon though. And if you have a mix of CCS and NACS vehicles you'll still need an adapter (a different one) after the retrofit.

No. And even if one exists, do not trust it.

There are J1772 adapters, and there are CCS adapters. They are separate. And they should be.

R2 should come with a J1772 (AC, home-charging-style) adapter, but a CCS (DC, public-rapid-charging-style) adapter will almost certainly cost money.
