I was having wheels swapped on today and stopped a tire shop tech midway from jacking my R1T from somewhere on the front underside, like on the skid plate. I was kind of holding in the rage politely saying “Yeah… that’s not a jack point, you have to use the pucks over here.” He insisted “This is ok to use without the pucks.”

Anyone hear of this? It’s not in any of the guides and now I get to check for damage later. I’m hoping they didn’t get any weight on it.

Under the control arms is okay, nothing else though.

Rivian R1T R1S jacking from the front underside? rivian lift points

Puck lift points are the safest (can use without pucks if plastic panels are removed.. Lower arms are ok but no preferred. Definitely not ok to use any other location. Manual has a section for tire change that shows the lift points. Put vehicle in off road highest and go into settings then service tire change mode on and crawl underneath and inspect for damage (always good idea to go under once and a while and check for loose bolts, torn shaft boots, brake pads etc).

Since many shops still struggle to locate proper jack points on Rivian's (unfortunately), we created these epoxy dome emblems to make them easy to spot and eliminate what happened in the second photo.

Yeah, I’ve historically done this myself but did have one heavy car that the manual explicitly suggested not to. I’m hoping that’s what he tried, either way.

Wait, what is this image from? I can't find it in the R1T owner's guide (2022-2024 or 2025+ versions), R1S owner's guide (2022-2024 or 2025+ versions), R1 Tow Guide, or R1 Tire Change Guide.

I've only ever seen this version in the manuals (plus a separate picture for the jack puck locations):

Never give business to those idiots again. And this is why every owner should know what is in the owner guide.

Keep your Rivian very far away from that shop.

Too little, too late for you, but when I take my Rivian to have the tires rotated, I give them the attached document when I hand them my fob and leave the JackPucks on the driver's seat. I hope they didn't damage anything underneath.

That is a great idea to hand them documentation. Although I’ve been lucky with my local Discount Tire. The worst they’ve done is left a puck cover loose. At least that told me they were using them! Also, I could tell they put the truck in tire change mode.

FWIW it was a Discount Tire, which has generally been good for me and they’re “supposed” to be aware of how to handle a Rivian. One guy was helping that I think had no idea what he was doing and didn’t care to ask.

Sometimes idiots think just because they have a specific job they are then the “expert”. They’re still idiots. They learn by rote and don’t ever again question their learning when encountering new circumstances (like EVs).
