Same thing happened to me.

Soft restart didn't fix it
Hard restart didn't fix it
Changing to a namebrand battery didn't fix it.
The Fob always shows as Green in the vehicle even when the fob isn't even with me. I think it simply shows the last known battery condition.

Service suspects some module didn't get updated correctly, but it didn't fail during an update. It failed when I tried replacing the battery.

I suspect a battery holder connection issue so I'll try what someone else suggested with the foam piece.

hard reset fixed mine (forced to try after phone app also stopped working and only card would start the vehicle - bit annoying). Of note, on 2nd battery (1st died within 6 months).

Good but sad to see I'm not the only one having this issue, which can definitely throw your whole day off if it happens at the wrong time. I've had the truck since May 2022, first time having key fob issue and I thankfully haven't had to change my battery every 3 weeks, but only once.

This morning, I had my key fob and phone. Neither were recognized as a key but could be used to lock and unlock the car. I spent an hour on the phone with the support team, did the software and hardware reset, each separately, then simultaneously together. Keyfob battery is noticed as green, I changed the battery since it had been a while but no change in behavior, did a "reset", removed phone key and was unable to add it back for whatever reason despite multiple trials (big mistake).

Thankfully my wife was at home and brought the two keycards that I never use. Without that the truck was about to get towed! So now I only have the two keycards as keys and need to wait 2 weeks for a mobile visit... Any guidance on how to fix my key fob other than what's been mentioned before? or how to add my phone back when the setup icon is not able to be selected is much appreciated.

#Update: In case this issue occurs to other in the future... It turns out, the key fob and phone started working once I my connect+ trial ended. The Rivian tech was coming a few days later so decided to wait until he was present to attempt to add the service again. Sure enough, as soon as I added the connect+ the key fob and phone stopped working. Stumped the Rivian tech as to how this could cause it but noticed failures in a Bluetooth panel. Changed it and issue fixed since Oct 18th!

something I’ve noticed on the fob. The battery is kinda loosely seated in it’s socket. The key back has a square piece of foam that is supposed to keep the battery seated but I think that foam gets compressed as some point and isn’t up to the job.

I found that pressing on the back of the fob, can re-seat the battery and cause the fob to start working. If that does the trick, then look into getting something between the battery and the foam square to keep the battery seated.
I can confirm that putting something between the battery and foam WORKS. I have two fobs and both were working intermittently at best. When I placed a piece of rubber band (more of less the same size as the foam) between the foam and battery, the key fob now works reliably.

I'm not sure if this fix the problem for all folks suffering from key fob issues, but if you find that your fob works when you squeeze it really hard, it likely will.

I'm guessing that the Gen 1 fobs just didn't go through enough testing and all will develop a loosely seated battery over time. It's gotta just be that the foam they choose compresses too much over time.

Thanks for posting about this. It really helped me figure it out!
