Yep. For all those folks who don't use their key fob.

Me I have had my G1 Rivian for over 2 years and almost 60k miles and I have:

- Used PAAK a handful of times
- Used my wristband key between 10-20 times
- Used one of the key cards a handful of times

FWIW I contacted CS via chat and Informed them I would not take delivery of a truck without a key fob and they informed me I could buy one from a SC, which I don't believe. Also confirmed I could cancel my order but they would keep my $3k deposit. Considering other options.

Yes may seem extreme but I am to pay $107k on a truck and it should have a key fob, the answer that I can buy one for an additional $500 or whatever is not good enough. It's a shame Rivian is losing one of their biggest fans over what probably cost them <$20. Oh well I guess I can go seriously look at the Sierra EV, it's cheaper I guarantee it has a key fob and also a much larger battery capacity.
Perhaps a little extreme....

I can confirm that a key fob is NOT an option yet on Gen2. I was taking delivery and they had one in hand ready to give me before their programmer was like, "nah, that won't work with Gen 2"

I'm just alarmed that Rivian terms seem to be that I give them $3k that I can't get back in any circumstance and their obligation is to provide me a vehicle with some feature set and some price all at Rivian's discretion.

Reading their terms today that does indeed seem to be the case, I certainly didn't realize it.

Rivian's purchase process requires customers to trust them. It can be scary for first time buyers!

Rivian eventually earned my trust, @jjswan33. If they treat you fairly, I will continue to trust them.

If they changed the terms from what you had a right to expect, they shouldn't hide behind the "fine print." Even if it's legal, it's ethically wrong. But it hasn't happened until you've made a final decision on whether to buy or not to buy.

It's easy to lose trust, and it's hard to get it back when it is lost.

Very best wishes!

Thanks @Dave Cundiff - again appreciate your usual thoughtful response.

Rivian has agreed to cancel/refund my order. I can watch what they do going forward, hopefully they offer a good alternative to PAAK all the time.

This is stupid. I'd be worried about RIVIAN as a company if something like deleting the key fob is a cost-cutting measure. I'm a 100% FOB user for locking/unlocking. Sometimes I don't feel like carrying my phone around. And if you lose your phone or your phone battery dies?

Next, they'll be offering steering wheels as an add-on option if you prefer not to use Driver+ to steer for you.

Hot take - if a key fob is really the differentiating factor between buying a Rivian or not, I'm gonna argue that you really aren't all that interested in the Rivian in and of itself.
Well said.

"I wouldn't buy a vehicle without a real key" is something I heard years ago when the comfort fobs became normal.

"I'd never buy a car without a crank starter, what if the battery dies!"

I’m taking delivery of an R1S in (hopefully) a couple weeks. Since I’m new here, I thought others who are new like me might not know that PaaK = phone as a key.

What I don’t understand is what’s the difference between the not-included key fob and the key card, which is included (other than the lack of physical button)?

I carry the key card in my wallet.
Right, that was my point. Could you not do that if the phone is lost, or the battery dies?

Personally my key card stays in my wallet which is a phone case. If I lose my phone I would likely lose my key card.

That would suck!

For the record, I agree with you that it's B.S. to remove the key fob without some formal announcement. I would personally get over it because I can't use the FOB 90% of the time anyway, but I agree with you in principle.

Yeah. Not saying I won't buy one some day without a fob but mostly I was upset about shrinking content of a truck I placed a non-refundable deposit on. Also I do use my fob everyday, its often more convenient to just grab the fob and open the front trunk or tailgate/rear hatch for example. Or the situations where I want to keep my phone in the truck.
