It is doable, you can run the route through ABRP to see charging options.I have an R1S ordered and was wondering about charging between LA to Mammoth as this a one of the trips we make several times a year. Has anyone made the trip from LA to Mammoth? Where did you charge en route and how difficult was it logistically.
Piece of cake. Easiest trip i know of with a Rivian. Right now free charging at Inyokern and Bishop. The big problem is how do you charge if you are staying in Mammoth. I have a house there so i can charge up as needed. There are no DCFC in mammoth for CCS. Charging to 85% in bishop will give you about 240 range depending on tires. The 42 mile trip driving up the hill will chew up about 70 miles of range. So you might have 100 mile of driving up there before you have to head back down the hill safely back to Bishop. If the RAN in Inyokern is full you could go up the road a bit to the Electrify America in Coso Junction, or if you're really in trouble, there is also a 50kW Cal Trans charger at the Coso Junction rest area.My other concern is that we usually only go to Mammoth on very busy weekends / holidays when my daughter is off school (President's Day, Xmas / New Year's, etc). It looks like the RAN stops in Inyokern and Bishop only have 6 charging stations. As more Rivians get delivered to new owners, it may be an issue getting a charging station in a timely manner.
Real world RAN I have never seen full, including these chargers on school breaks. If people charge at a 6 ran station and charge for 40 minutes roughly, would that equate to a station opening up every 7 minutes? Is that what people are seeing in the real world?
