Last night I had a dream.... I went to the service center (I have an appointment for next week) and when I drive my truck inside I notice a R1T in the back that kept my attention, it wasn't like my R1T, it was different... I gave my instructions to the service guy and I asked him what is that, and this is what he told me (I'm my dream) That is the new "base" version of R1T, It was so weird, basic steel wheels like the ones that have the Land Rover Defender from 1972, steel bumpers and just one screen in the dash. Everything was "manual" even the windows...... and hanging from the mirror an old school price tag, like the ones the cars have in the 90's.... priced at $39,900 I couldn't drive it I don't remember anything else after the price.

And today I can't stop thinking, what about if they release a "base" version, no air compressor, no pneumatic suspension, no cameras, no radar, everything manual, windows, mirrors, latches, frunk, tailgate, lights, wipers, ac, no glassroof, etc etc I can go for ever..........everything, just a plain and simple base version...... How much will really cost and how many they will sell......

It would be nice. Aside from the fact that they would probably have to retool everything, I think much of the "tech" is what is tripping them up. There would be many fewer call backs and warranty repairs I'm sure.

I mean I'd be surprised if in 5 years they didn't have a base truck for fleet customers but I'm sure it won't have crank windows.

We help people sell their Rivian in the easiest way possible.

Maybe the dream came to you for a reason, maybe one of those prophetic dreams.

Aren't they aiming for a lower price tag and more accessible EV for the next R2 lineup? I agree that the vehicles will still at least have the basic niceties though.

Here’s the problem with your dream: auto manufacturers don’t make enough profit on base version vehicles. Upgrades=profit margin. That’s why you were forced to add a sunroof if you wanted antilock brakes on a Honda in the 90’s. Upgrades come packaged giving you stuff you don’t want because the profit margins are high.

They originally had a somewhat base model specked in the Explore Version. It was sans the powered tonneau cover, the removable speaker, high end sound system, and a couple of other useless items. The Explore priced $5,000 less than the Adventure.

If Rivian had chosen to produce the Explore Version first, they would probably been ahead of where they areas the powered tonneau has been their Achilles Heel.
